I Have seen these on ebay a couple of times:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2418016901

and i was wondering if any of the purchasers were on the board or if anyone can vouch for an VIS CF hood for the fd's??? If anyone has any pics that would be great too!

9BASE3 06-05-2003 04:15 PM

Never seen one from Ebay on a FD.. But my friend just got a VIS hood for his Integra and it's one of the nicest ones I've ever seen!

Srce 06-05-2003 04:27 PM

I heard they're real nice too, you could ask Benny (a forum member here). He got a CF hood for his FD and the fitment and quality are top notch. It's not (I think) Vis but it looks amazing. Let me try and find that thread he posted it in!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

FikseRxSeven 06-05-2003 07:01 PM

that is a great lookin hood

mako 06-05-2003 08:19 PM

I bought one of the vis ks hoods off of ebay, they were somewhat on backorder and it took a month to get it. they guy said he has them in stock now. The hood was packed awesome and I was very happy with that part. the initial impression of the hood when I took it out of the box was good. It looked better than I thought it would, there are a few minor spots where the weve is not perfect, but for the money what do you expect. the finish is very nice and glossy and looks like a thick coat of resin and clear coat. It has a deep look to it. The hood came with mesh installed but it looks pretty nasty painted silver, I am going to remove it and paint it black. i will take some more detailed pics this weekend when i get the hood on the car, I just test fitted it a bit but did not bolt it down. really for the money its a nice hood so far, just have to see what it fits like when its done. I had an early run of the mazdaspeed copy hoods from taiwan or something and this hood seems a lot better quality. all the edges are nice and smooth.

Initial pics.

not sure I like the look of the hood yet, its hard to tell. I took the pics in direct sunlight so it looks kinda funny.

For under $400 before shipping it looks like it fits as good or better better than some of the $900 big-name imports. You are right, the screens need to be painted black or dark grey. Damn, I like it, plus you have a nice box and packing pieces to store your OE hood in!

Thanks srce94 fd, and mako: I think i am probably going to go ahead order the hood in the next couple of weeks since it seems to have positive feedback...mako, if you could please post additional pics after this weekend that would be great.

What does that hood weigh?

You guys got to remember these are fiberglass hoods with one

layer of CF at the top. Still $400 is good for a chopper gun glass hood.

Right, people shouldn't confuse these with full CF Hoods! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Rob x-7 06-06-2003 06:58 PM

Its not that CF is that much ligher, its just that true CF is stronger

so it can be made thinner.

mako 06-06-2003 07:35 PM

there is only 1 or 2 hoods i think that are even made for the fd that are full carbonfiber. The real mazdaspeed, and I think the one off scoot that Chuck at Rotaryextreme had made.

most poeple could not afford a real full carbonfiber hood, and just want it for looks. I got the vis because it was cheap and thought I would give it a shot. more info this weekend

Rob x-7 06-06-2003 07:46 PM

im sure it will work out for you and you wont have any problems

with it. I have always said that reproduction hoods are alot cheaper

then the originals because with the original someone had to make

it from nothing, then make a mold of it. When you have one to make a mold

from it takes away the hard part, I doubt when the original people make a hood

they sell THAT many of them so hence the high price just to try to make

thier money back on them.

TURBOX2 06-06-2003 09:04 PM

I agree...and realize that it is not all carbon fiber.. and since it is mostly fiber glass that i am not saving any weight...my main purpose for possibly getting the hood was to find something that looks good and most of all to help keep hood temps down a little. And i like the price https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

FikseRxSeven 06-07-2003 12:42 AM

well, you're not saving weight...... and i doubt that you're adding weight...... and it looks bad ass........... you better buy it

Srce 06-07-2003 12:56 PM

I think that's the same hood as TTT has on his car except that I think TTT's is real!!!

mako 06-09-2003 03:24 PM

Hey guys, I got the hood mounted on the car over the weekend, I am very happy with the over all fit and finish for what I paid for the hood. I need to do some final adjustments but was to tired to mess with it. I pulled the mesh off and painted it black, which made it look about 100% better. I still need to fab up some rain block for when it rains. I put up some other pics at http://206.54.188.4/kshood/kshood.html if anyone wants larger pics let me know i have them. Also as far as the weight goes, I weighed my stock hood and the new hood just standing on a house scale. not sure how close it is, but both weighed the same at about 20lbs. I guess now just have to see how it holds up.

Whoa, that looks great bro. Fantastic job man, I'm really impressed. Although it would have been better that the weight was actually a deciding factor, but I guess you'd have to figure in the fact that this thing will help keep your underhood temps down.

Again, it looks great, but now you should paint those calipers red and get some nice rotors. LOL https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

KingFD 06-10-2003 02:17 AM

Wow! Thats looking real f'ing good. Nice job. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Rob x-7 06-10-2003 08:22 PM

You could use thin sheets of finished fiberglass

painted black to cover the holes in the hood when it rains.

You could attatch it with velcro being they will be light.

Or you could epoxy some stainless steel canvas snaps

and either snap on the fiberglass panels or get canvas ones

made up. The fiberglass panels basically look like formica

but are made of glass. They could be painted black.

That **** they use for signs thats a plastic that almost looks

like corrogated cardboard holds up really well, is waterproof,

super light, and can also be held up with snaps or velcro.

FikseRxSeven 06-10-2003 09:14 PM

the wheels and the hood match great

Orochinoyamato 06-10-2003 09:30 PM

Where do I get one?

Really. Just put two scratches across my hood that a body shop wants about $500 to repair. If I can get a better ventilated one for $100 less, that's a pretty clear-cut case of "gimme, gimme, right now!" as far as I can see.

Is there anything I'm missing here, or is it really that clear-cut? I'm not going to break it trying to install it with the complete lack of experience I have, or anything, am I?

Oh, and in the meantime, where do you get mazda scratch repair type paint? I tried the GM black, the only one I could find, and it doesn't match at all.

FikseRxSeven 06-10-2003 09:38 PM

they have vis hoods on e bay........ once every couple of weeks the knightsport replica comes up

Orochinoyamato 06-10-2003 10:26 PM

$367 +$150 s&h, I see a couple of 'em. Cool.

I'd be very interested to see whatever you use to block the rain, and get the dimensions on it--maybe even a brief explanation of how you made it. I'm not exactly experienced at fabricating parts, and I don't think I can take the easy way out here and use thermal plastic.

FikseRxSeven 06-10-2003 11:27 PM

what material is the mesh made out of? maybe you can use a big piece of magnetic sheet ........ sorta like the things you put on your fridge that says your local pizzeria's phone number..... that way you can easily put it on and off without doin any extra fabrications only cutting...... but thats only if it will stick to the mesh

thanks for the ideas on the rain blocks, I will figure something out this weekend when I have some free time. It rained pretty hard tonight and I don't really like taping a plstic bag to the hood to keep the water out...

I knew about this when I bought the hood, just have to come up with a good plan. So far I am happy after a few days of driving, you can see the heat pour out the vents at stop lights and after the car is off. being in texas I need all the cooling that is possible.

mako 06-11-2003 02:11 AM

I am pretty sure the mesh is steel, will have to check. thanks for the ideas on the rain blocks, I will figure something out this weekend when I have some free time. It rained pretty hard tonight and I don't really like taping a plstic bag to the hood to keep the water out...

I could easily fabricate what you need to block the rain, it blows my mind

that they just dont include it with the hood.

Orochinoyamato 06-15-2003 06:48 PM

Mako, did you get something fabricated to block the rain? If you tried that magnetic sheet idea, did it work?

TURBOX2 06-21-2003 09:28 PM

Yeah mako...what did you end up doing to block out the rain?

93FDGT3540 06-22-2003 09:50 AM

This is a sweet looking hood. I noticed they have different models and this model is the "KS" model. Looks like he isnt selling any on EBAY right now of this model. Best looking hood in my Opinion.
