I figure with all of the geniuses on this board, someone can give me some good advice as to removing paint scratches.
My mom is going to trade in her Durango soon and she's got some scratches on the trim of the passenger doors and wheel wells. The trim is some sort of plastic or something. Anywho, what's the best way to take care of these so it looks nice and shiny? Thanks in advance for any advice! |
We use this glue remover called Acrosol or somethin and it actually removes small scratches.

Are they acctual in the clear coat deep scratches or just light swirls?
If it is just swirl marks or light scatches then you can use a compound. A high speed buffer is in order also to get into the clear coat to remove them, hand strength wont be enough. Compounds come in different grades like sand paper so depending on the harshness of the scatches will decifer the compound to buy. |

those arent going to come out.
They have gone beyond the clearcoat. At least thats how those pics look. Try a autobody or detail shop, even a car wash, to see if they can give the area a quick buff, but honestly when you trade a car in something like that wont really take away from what they will pay you compared to what it will take to fix, especially when the sale of a new car is involved, or were you talking about trading it in on lease? |
What was your mom doing.....scraping bushes out in the biyou (sp) LOL
Ya looks like you SOL dude |
We have no idea how those scratches got on there. It could possibly be from metal-tipped cleats (my bro plays soccer and sometimes my mom would carry more than one kid on the team).
It's more that she's mad about how it looks than the effect on the trade-in value, you know? I think that it would also be useful to me just to know how to get simple scratches out. I figured if any, maybe the scratches on the bumper could be buffed out somehow. I don't know. (Pic #7). But thanks for the help! |

Some of the scratches do look as if a high speed buffer will take them out. Unless you have the tools then it wiil cost $$ to go buy the buffer and supplies
|
like it was said already, different compounds and glazes, best
applied by machine, by the time you buy everything you could probably pay someone to do it, its something thats best shown in person and not described over the internet on how to do it. |
Oh well, thanks for the help.

Re: Scratch Removal
Use rubbing technique to get rid of these scratches. Also if there is small dings then use paintless dent removal technique. I also recommended a good auto body shop for you car.
