looking to get some tips... gonna try and tackle this on my own..

the drivetrain on the other fd is out and before reassemble.. id like to get it done..

first question.. any difference in paint with the engine bay considering the heat..

looking to have the same quality as the exterior.. and that will last

........i'd ask elaine at banzai, she's the one that does that for them. she told me the hardest part is cleaning it out beforehand

unless others says otherwise... just had plans on usin an over the counter degreaser for cleanin..

tape everythin up and spray her with primer... unsure of what to color primer to use though..

I'm tellin ya man use the POR system, at least use the POR Marine clean/degreaser and the metal ready. the degreaser is amazing.

Are you planning on stripping the existing paint? I have done a minor amount of body work on my own rx, but mostly on the outside. The engine bay might hold up better if you dont have anything to mess things up underneath.

Any heavy duty degreaser will be fine, use LOTS of water, rinse it really well. You can use just about anything to finish it after that, I've used VHT rotor paint in bomb cans to spray out engine bays before. High temp paints really aren't necessary even on the hot side of the bay. I used black gloss in mine, acrylic lacquer, what 6 years down the road it still looks tits and performs like a champ.



To maintain it after the car is back together stray away from the caustic and petroleum based degreasers though, unless you're right on top of it doing small sections at a time and can flood the area with water and not hurt the engine and its sensetive parts.

Simple green followed by odorless mineral spirits does the trick for me.

The engine bay paint is the same as exterior. My suggestions are to do same as posted above, clean everything really really good with a degreaser. Grease and oil causes fish eyes. Then for a primer depending on the color of your car, if its yellow like your icon I suggest a light grey. Spray first coat light and let it tack up for a bit then spray another coat about 3-4 coats should be full coverage. Let it dry for awhile and spray clear, first coat light so not to run it, 2nd and 3rd heavier for a shine. Be careful not to run it. remember 50% overlap to not get tiger striping
