i don't mind doing that first, cause i just spent a whole lot of money on my fd. what's the best way to paint/dye the panels??? thanks

You may not have to buy new panels if your willing to spend a little more on finish. Awl Grip is an epoxy primer that sticks to everything, Imron is a damn near bulletproof finish which requires no clear. Both products are kind of expensive, but well worth the money IMO. The panels shoud at least be scuffed with an ultra fine scotch-brite pad(if you like the texture)

or you could sand the texture out. A degreaser(dishsoap) or Acryliclean, should have the surface prepared for primer. The finished product is excellent and it may be cheaper than buying all new plastics and such.

An automotive paint supplier, carring DuPont . The primer is 50 a quart, the Imron im unsure, probably close to the primer in cost. You will need a cup gun, and an air compressor to use these products, Its not a bomb can product.

i have a gun, but don't have compressor nor do i have the room to paint it with a paint gun..... ne other products might worth trying. i'm not looking for a perfect change over. i do plan on getting this done by a professional. but i just can't afford it right now, damn paint job, hood, body kit... cost a arm and a leg... just looking for a quick fix that i can live with for about a year or two.

IMO the vinyl dye products are crap. The color floats and it doesnt resist grease or UVrays well (finished surface will become blotchy) To paint (bomb can method) the problem you will have is acquiring adhesion to the surface. All parts to be finished should be removed if possible, prepped to the best of your ability(sanded and degreased) finished AND clearcoated.

This will give you a maintenace surface to resist grease, small scuffs, etc. Bomb cans can be used for finish/clear, and should last for a while.

The carpet and cloth panels: just replace, anything you do will make them worse.

I used the VHT. If you clean it well and use the primer that VHT makes you should have no problems. I used the VHT and the few panels I hav'nt changed yet are still black.

As far as the carpet goes, I have not found any aftermarket company that makes carpets for FD, before I found my black carpet, I tried ther dye on my tan rung under the seat where you can't see. WOW WHAT A ******* DISASTER!!!
