as far as I am concerned, I will never again buy a stereo that doesn't have mp3 support, it is the best improvement since, well, cds
|
Sony all the way, Ive had other decks, but Sony seems the best.
I look for features and Sony always seems to have exactly what I need. Ive had one Sony deck for 10 years, thats enough to convince me. Current one in my car ive had for 5 years. It has 3 sets of pre-outs, 1 is sub control with hi-pass built in, has CD/MD changer controls which means that even though its a older unit with no MP3, I can now connect Sony's new add on MP3 changer to it directly and use the controls built into the deck I also have added Sonys RF version of the 10 disk MP3 changer to my factory radio in my Lexus so I can play MP3 in there now as well. |
Used to have: Alpine CVA-1000 but now have the Alpine MDA-W750.
|
I have the Sony MP30 (plays mp3) and its the second best since the Alpine HU. Going back to Alpine next year (change my HU every year or so). Sony is good for price/features/quality but Alpine sound much better

alpine cda7998 here and everything else alpine to support it. i am thinking about getting alpine's pxah700 parametric eq. i've never been a fan of eq, but this **** looks good.

i have an alpine cda-7844 from my GTU and my FD has a sony CDX-750 (i think ?)

From a reliability and sound quality standpoint, I think Alpine, Clarion, and Eclipse are very good. I never use the internal amps on any head unit so power to me doesn't matter. I look for ease of use too in the layout. Some of the units have so many damn buttons, bells and whistles all over the place, they are a pain to control when driving.

Just a mp3 player, that is all i look for
|
I got an Aiwa. It played mp3's and was on sale, so I bought it before seeing it. It turns out that it does this cool flip maneuver to look like there's no head unit. About $130 Circuit City.

I've got an old ass Pioneer DEH-P2000. At one point, after listening to Ravel's Bolero, the CD player stopped playing CDs. Months later, it started working again. That scores them some bonus points for Jesus-style resurrection. I probably won't replace it until it dies (again) or I have enough spare cash to grab a unit that plays MP3s.

I got a Nakamichi CD-40z mostly because of the subtle stock-like looks. It works well (which seems unfortunately uncommon for Nakamichi as of late), sounds good, and looks great. You can order them with Amber display, too. It doesn't match the FD dash lighting exactly, but at least it is close. I got mine for a deal on uBid ($140-ish), and they sent me the green one, despite my request for amber. I kept it, figuring it would be hard to swap for amber, and I am quite happy with it. The display is very clear day or night, it has decent internal power, and the CD never skips during normal driving despite my bone rattling suspension. It also has a rotary volume knob and detachable face (does anyone use this feature? I wish they would make more fixed-face units), but doesn't play MP3s. The controls are nice and simple. You can get a CD-45z with a nice A/D section, or a CD-35z if you don't need CD changer controls (I don't, but the deal I found was on the CD-40z so that's the one I bought). It is hard to find a subtle looking head unit these days -- they typically have way too many flashing lights and crap for my taste. The Nakamichi is basic black with green or amber display (not switchable -- you must order the color you want). It is wonderfully plain. I wish they all looked like this.
I just put a cheap Kenwood KDC-119 in my daily driver. It was cheap and seems to work great. Some of the eq features are hard to figure out, and it just has buttons for volume control, but I like it overall. It is black, silver, blue, and green. -Max |
the newwer pioneers are pretty decent :bigok:

Hey Rob X-7 if that RCA out is for your subs it BETTER have a lo-pass :P unless u like buying subs a lot, cause if voice goes through and decent sux with a good amp it ain't gonna last long https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
