i installed my new cd player last night and boy did it suck. for some reason the radio/antenna fuse blows anytime the key is turned on, which i thought was caused by the old stereo but apparently not. so theres no power at the correct power line for the stereo so i ran one from the power windows fuse for temporary power. but now the antenna doesnt work bc theres no power, but that doesnt matter so much right now bc the antenna cable is too short to reach the spot on the new unit! also, since this thing has the amps and stuff i had to splice the speaker wires straight to the wires from the stereo without a connector, but ill get a couple of connectors and hook those up later.



right now it all works, and sounds pretty good considering the front speakers are half gone and one of the rears only works for the tweeter part. oh and considering this has got to be one of the worst speaker layouts ever designed, the soundstage is pretty much at the armrest. now i need to replace all the speakers

why are you so worried about the antenna? radio sucks. which head unit did you go with shane?? i wanna see it!

im the kinda guy who likes everything to work the way its supposed to.

its got everything but mp3, 3 sets of 5v preamps, motorized face, etc.

Ooooh, I like it, and it is not a bad price either. I understand about the wanting everything working right.

there is a relay you need to make the antenna work... its triggerd by a negative not a power like most power antennas. That is why you are blowing the fuse

without the relay the antennea works in reverse, it doesnt blow the fuse

it will come up when you turn it off and go down when you turn the radio on.

its a stock power antenna so it already has a relay, could that be the problem?

I think something or a couple of somethings behind the dash are wired wrong. Also, try pulling the drivers side plastics in the trunk and unplugging the power antenna, if the fuse still pops when you hit the key something is wired through the circuit that either shouldn't be there or isn't grounded properly.

good idea about the antenna, ill try that later. i got a new relay with the install kit so maybe ill switch em out just in case thats the problem.

the relay they refer to is for the antennea to work properly, you would add a relay to switch the ground, stock mazda sends out a negative signal to tell the antennea to go up, all radios send out a positive signal to tell the antennea to go up, so when you hook up a aftermarket radio without installing a relay to switch the signal the antennea works in reverse, but that will not blow the fuse, something else blows the fuse.
