I want to strip, Polish and wax the FD. Whats the best combination you've used?

Should I go with products from the same manufacturer, like a kit.... or piece one together myself?

Thanks fellas..

Over the counter stuff:

Meguair's clay bar. PITA to use though.

" " Gold class car wash

" " Show car shine (tan bottle)

" " High tech yellow wax (tan bottle)

This stuff works great for me.

A lot of people go crazy over Zaino though. www.zainobros.com

i like to use a clay bar and mcguires cleaner wax, it gives good results for the amount of effort

meguiars is the best commonly found cleaners and waxes for the money.

i have 10+ years of detailing under my belt, and personally, i use 3m finesse it for cleaning, and 3m finish it for the waxing....

banzaitoyota: do you have any pics of your car after a blackfire 'treatment' ? i've been looking into getting that blackfire kit when my current stuff runs out, but i'm wondering if its worth it. post some pics and let us know what you used guys https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

www.zainobros.com They stuff is amazing. Initial use takes some time but once you have a coat on there maintainance is very easy. The car almost looks like glass when light reflects off of it.

Try the 3m Perfect-it III system, much better

Where do you guys buy the 3M stuff? I use Mcguiers paint cleaner, then polish twice, then wax.

(Hey, I was born in Long Island. Do you know a strawberry blonde named Theresa?)

I have family in L.I. glen cove https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

i want to know where to get 3M stuff too.

HPF_MK3T 11-07-2002 06:42 PM

I've had really good luck with the Meguires 3 Step system. A couple years ago I used it on my 85 XR4Ti and it came out looking excellent for a 15 year old paint job. This was right before an Import Ford show and i got the people's choice award. It took me about 5 hours to do all 3 steps though.

1: Cleaner

2: Polish

3: Wax

I'd also recommend Meguires Soft Wash Gel car wash. I used to sell the 3M Finesse it and Perfect it products when I sold auto parts, but the price was a little steep for my tastes if I didn't get an employee discount. Not to mention they're more of a paint finishing compound used more in body & paint shops.

Some 3M stuff can be had in good auto parts stores, otherwise check a local detail supply or body supply shop.

all the stuff these guys carry is great. it's the **** a lot of fellow rx7 owners use on their cars. they carry 3M, pinnacle, and some other stuff. it all depends on how much $ you spend and how **** you are. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

I use mother's wax and meguiars quick finish spray but i'm getting the pinnacle car care kit once my wax runs out.

Sweet. Thanks. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Can anyone point out what is the difference between the polish and wax also y do u need a cleaner? Thanks, khris

yayer 11-12-2002 08:06 PM

so the clay bar really is some good ****?

SSE/ASE_RX7 11-12-2002 11:37 PM

I'd recommend Zaino Bros. if you're truly dedicated to your car's cappearance, year-round, and are willing to spend a day with your baby. Zymol is nice and easy, good results, but I don't really like the liquid wax stuff, hard to apply evenly, though it tends to even out when you pay attention to its application. Mequiar's, prolly the best bang for buck, and easiest to attain. Good stuff, and I've never even used all the treatments. Never heard of Blackfire, and never seen the 3M stuff, but I'll check them out. I'd say meguiar's. if you're not satisfied then dip into the bank account and go for something fancy.

Rob x-7 11-13-2002 06:03 AM

Clay bar i good if when you run your hand across the paint you feel dirt even after the car has been washed.

3M is pro quality stuff, its really not over the counter material and is designed for pro use by machine.

banzaitoyota 11-14-2002 08:15 AM

You need to try out BLACKFIRE, the **** is awesome!!!!

9BASE3 11-14-2002 09:25 AM
