Sorry for asking 2 questions that's been asked millions of times, but how do you get the emblems off with out chipping the paint and what is the best way to roll the fenders w/o buying a fender roller? Thanks
|
heat gun or hair dryer for the emblem, a plastic scraper of some sort
works good to pry it away from the metal. Then some adhesive cleaner to remove the glue. Good idea to follow it up with some glaze and some wax, sometimes you may need a light compound to buff it up a bit as its probably shinier where the emblem used to sit. Rent a fender roller, or have a shop do it for you, or if you are brave you can do it the way they have been doing it since the hot rod days of the 1950s long before a tool was invented for its purpose and thats to use a wooden baseball bat and a heat gun. |
|
I used a dremel and cut out the edge of my rear fender, since it was rubbing my 275s pretty bad. I tried rolling them but the paint kept cracking. Maybe with a heat gun the paint would be ok. It only took a few mins to cut with the dremel though.

I have also heard of people using a heat gun and dental floss to remove
the emblems if you cant find a plastic scraper |
if the emblem is stuck and I pull the emblem hard.... will it damage the paint?
I have to friends who work for bodyshops and when i asked them if they have a fender roller, they said they never seen it before... wonder why they don't know or have it |

I thank you again rob
|
i won an auction for one of those rolling tools, but i didnt meet the reserve, so i dont have it now..... sucks huh
|
you better win another one cause your fender is flairing out.... good thing you got a good brother to look out for your car.
|
visualize a rim and tire bolted on and the skinny end of a baseball
bat where that skateboard wheel looking thing is and you can see how a bat would work, you jack the car up so the wheel hangs, insert the skinny end of the bat between the body and tire, then lower the car slowly on the bat and roll the bat move it to the thicker part of the bat to get more flare. the wood wont hurt the paint, but if there is bodyfiller on there from a previous repair it will pop off or crack if its been repainted and there is alot of primer/paint it will crack as well. |
Never had this problem, So I'll be teh idiot to ask this question:
When you are "rolling" the fenders...are you rolling that curved end in to prevent rubbing? or rolling it out to be on the outside? (The part thats bend around and inside.... Tucking in or pulling out? |
Is there nothing a dremel can't do?

It's just on the inside...that curved body part that physically rubs against the sidewall/top of the tire is rolled in and thinned out.... I wonder, what size tires can you get way with with 18" rims on an FD without having to do that... |
if you look at it you wont notice anything, if you run your hands under the fender you will feel it is folded
|
