ok this thread has 41 views and no replies, so I'll be the one to ask,,,,WHAT THE HELL IS A "DRY" Carbon Fiber HOOD??

I saw some people talking about this on a Lexus Forum. Apperantly they are super light weight. Lighter then a carbon fiber hood bust cost lots and lots of money. Around 3k I guess.

From what I heard (from someone on here) Wet CF is when they use epoxy to make it hard. Dry is when they vacuum seal it and bake in an oven at an extreme pressure. The mclaren f1 is built dry style.

ok thanks for clearing that up. now can someone justify this cost for less weight. Speaking from personal experience, my CF hood is pretty damn light and it was only $1k I cant see the need for more weight reduction that a "normal CF hood"

isnt dry what the lemans cars use that u see splintering into a million pieces then they crash. ive never seen any for anrx or even heard of em for that matter. good luck post a link if u find anything , im curious now

Dry is the "ugly" C/F. It's what F1 car tubs are or were. (gotten to hi-tech for me) Dry is cured under high heat and pressure.

dry CF is what "real" CF is persay.



the wet cf is mainly just FG with like 1 or 2 layers of CF on top.



dry CF is much stronger than wet cf, and weighs on average around 30% less if i am not mistaken.

wet carbon fiber is referring to the process of wet layup where you soak or spread liquid epoxy onto the carbon fabric.



"dry" would be referring to prepreg, where the fabric comes preimpregnated with exactly the right amount of epoxy already in it.



prepreg ends up stronger because it has a higher carbon to epoxy ratio.



either method can be vacuum bagged and/or autoclaved but usually someone doing wet layup doesnt have those kinds of resources.
