Ok so, I put in a set of fog lights for a friend of mine, in return he gave me 2 12" subwoofers that I wana put in the back of the SE. my original though would be to use 3/8 plexiglass but its a little pricy. So I am thinking about doing them in wood and carpeting or wrapping in leather, but dont know what would be the best type of wood to use? how thick should it be? should I vent it or should it be sealed? id also like to incorperate a few small tweeters and a couple 6x8 speakers, due to the elimination of the rear towers. Now I have 2 400watt 4channel amps, what would be the best way to how hook everything up, all the radio out puts are already used.

ok Got some 3/4 inch partical board free from my dad went and took a bunch of measurements for the box to make it fit between the rear wheel wells and behind my strutbar. It will be a pretty large box that I will divid in to four separate sections, 2 lrg for the subs and a 1" tweeter for each one, then the 2 small compartments to house a 2" tweeter and a 6x8 speaker on the front side to take place of my missing rear speaker towers. Each compartment will be sealed w/ silicone and completely covered in dyno mat. In the larger compartments there will be vents on each side of the box to cool the subs. I was thinking of placing the amps properly spaced over these holes to help cool them as well. Then it'll be wrapped in black leather. What you guys think? I'll post up a diagram of it in a little bit.

I think MDF (medium density fiberboard) is most commonly used for enclosures because of its anti-resonance properties. There are a variety of parameters relating to the drivers that will dictate what size enclosure is best. Usually a given driver can be used in both vented and non-vented enclosures, they'll just be different sizes. If you don't have any data on the drivers, you can just wing it and probably be happy with the results. I would opt for a sealed enclosure because the bass output tends to be tighter. Remember its distortion that kills speakers, not watts.

You could try contacting the manufacturer of the subs, and see if they have recommended enclosure dimensions. My brother did this for some kicker subs, and made it exactly to their specs using MDF (or particle board? same thing?).

That's not particle board, it's plywood. How are you attaching everything together, gluing and nailing?

yeah i know when i went to my dads this is what he had its 3/4inch and free, it is held together w/ some silicone , a nail gun. and screws lol. today ill be running a few more beads of silicone to seal the last of the joints then the inside will be covered completely w/ dyno mat. the outside will be sanded down, and the top will be constructed. just need to run and get the 6x9s and 2'' tweeters. hopefully ill have it done by the end of the day bc i know the tops gonna be the hardest part to make perfect

got tons done today wiring, sealed and insulated, 5x7s mounted everything is perfect, just the way I want it. tomorrow ill finish the top just need to get the 2'' tweeters and a couple of bass restricters and itll just need to be wrapped.
