im usually against a pillar gauge pods, but i saw these and instantly wanted them. now my question for you guys...... is it worth it?
its 250 bucks, comes with the gauge pods and a blank cf cover for the passenger side. hey if people want these, maybe i can ask chuck or maybe these guys if i can get it cheap with enough people http://www.teamprototype.com/cfparts/gauge/fc3s_01.jpg |
Mark could probably make them for cheaper then $250

I've had the a-pillar gauge pods...they suck. I had to keep looking around them to see to the right(right hand drive). I got the CF mickey mouse gauge pods from border....they don't get in the way and I quit straining my neck!
|
how much do cf mickeys go for?
|
i was worried about the view too but with the autometer pod i have the pods are right in line with the pillar from the drivers seat so no no extra view was lost. that said i think stock the view isnt too good and i think there is room to get about another half inch of view if new pillar trim is made correctly.

well i didnt think i was THAT cheap. i probably will never get around to doing pillars for a T2 so feel free.

I definitly wouldnt make them for a TII, FD guys spend the cash, not
FC guys. Besides S5 FCs cant use them anyhow. I guess I am spoiled when it comes to doing side projects, I wont take on projects if Im not going to make money on them. |

I see no money being made in this for me. For someone using cheap epoxy with no uv shield, then laying one layer of CF and then maybe one more layer of glass- they can make it cheap. I cant. |
i hope you arent talking about me since i use top quality materials as well.

that would require left hand and right hand models
|
id love a guage pod like that but in my opinion thats too much carbon fiber in a way to obvious place. how about a cheaper paintable fiber glass version???
|
you can paint carbon fiber just as well as fiberglass, the carbon fiber piece will (hopefully) be lighter.
i'm with rob here, 75 for it is ridiculous either the guy is not making money (stupid) or they are not comparable to what was photographed in the beginning of the thread. high grade epoxy resin and CF fabric alone will consume alot of $75, then add the cost of making the mold and materials consumed in the process. Not even including time it's already not worth it. |

Not even including time it's already not worth it. I dont think I would make CF ones anyhow, I can make them from a better material and have the same texture as what the pillar trim is made from now if I want and it would not be nearly as time consuming as fiberglass ones, they would be flexable so they wouldnt crack if someone was a bit rough putting them on, and they could still be painted if someone wanted to. I had thought about making them in black, but for the method I was thinking of making them in I can easily change colors. Problem is I would still want to make about 20-30 of them to make it all worth my time. By the way- besides the wet/dry CF, most of the CF stuff people are selling is one layer of CF then its fiberglass, the CF is for looks, im not into doing that. |
