I always try and edit my posts to the best of my ability checking for grammar and misspelled words. If its a big post I will re-read it several times cleaning it up. I spent so much time in college learning how to write a proper paper its hard not to double check everything to make sure it sounds ok. Sometimes spelling things phonetically or how they sound like the example " u r," for "you are," actually take longer to read because people are trying to form words with the letters and not just taking it as it sounds. Plus not using punctuation makes it that much more challenging. I remember one of the first classes I took that had a major term paper due started out with the teacher reading through all the rough drafts and telling the class, " for the most part, all your papers suck." That was an ego buster, he he.

Why has it always been ok to use abbreviations like i.e. and etc.? I don't think I can even spell etcetera.. (Is that right?) And do you ever hear (or see) anyone spell out In Example? I'm sure there is more I'm unaware of..

EXACTLY! I don't sound things out I read word by word. When you get some illiterate moron who runs around typing "ru going 2 go 2 teh storez?" it throws me off. Unfortunately I'm getting used to it.

They've shown that kids that write that way all the time can't write regular papers worth a damn. Or think.

Currently I'm taking ASL and reading fingerspelling is a pain for the same reason. Reading letter by letter takes a lot of effort.
