In a few minutes Im headed out to check out another boat. I really like this one so we'll see what happens. Basically Im looking for a boat to use to sail around the Americas this up coming year. Starting in Seattle and heading north through the North West Passage and down the east coast into the Caribbean, through the Panama canal, down the west side of South American, hit Antarctica and back up the east side then back through the Panama canal and up the west coast until arriving back in Seattle. Should take about 16-18 months ... then Ill try and sell the boat. lol



Anyways, check it out ... its a steel hull because well, ill be in arctic weather some of the time. :-o

steel is the only way to go in that climate. I actually have some very close friends (we are going to their wedding in sarasota in april) that have a bruce roberts 44 steel hull, I am not sure of the year. It's named the lady margaret. Well designed boats, decent build quality and some neat features, like all the water lines in his are copper! I actually helped him swap the motor last year, was very easy. I can't comment on the sailing characteristics as I have never sailed on his (he has a ketch rig). and for the record i'll take a dipped in paint motor over a rusty mother fucker any day LOL



the only complaints i have heard on the BR's is the tankage is limited and often mounted in fucked up places, only 80 gallons of water you should consider a watermaker. Boats are so ******* cool, not only can you sail accross the ocean but they can also float on water!

are most marine motors painted that way for rust protection perhaps..

i mean the thing has everyhting minus the hose painted....

definetely get a survey and make sure the guy has done steel boats. My friend with the roberts had some serious hull issues, he got the boat very cheap so it wasnt a big deal, but you want to cover your basis. I honestly don't know a lot about steel boats, but if you would like let me know and I can give pete and ray a call and ask them about it, he knows A LOT, he's the guy with the 12 volt welder.

Back from checking it out. One of the nicest 37 foot boats Ive seen. The interior was very wide, 11' beam and 6'5 ceiling. I looked over the engine, it is brand spankin new from the factory. The rigging is all great except I might want to beef up the winches for the arctic. I would need heavier sails since this boat only comes with one set of medium weight sails. The storage isnt too great because the interior is literally built all the way to the hull. Its nicely insulated so it should do well in the tropics as well as the arctic. The water deal was a big concern like you said. Its capacities arent that great and there is no water maker on board. I wouldnt have a problem putting one in, its just a problem of where to put it! Lots of cubby holes and **** but no real great place for it. The deck is super wide and all flat, a great deck to hang out on. LOTS of room.



Anyways, Im going to low ball these guys and keep looking. Its a really, really nice boat though. I would love to have it, I just dont know if its what I want to be sailing around the arctic in, ya know.
