damn i want this thing, **** ill just take the motor too
http://www.thetorquereport.com/2007/12/det...iew_2009_1.html |
body still looks the same to me (which i understand is the point, but..)
|
there are some minor body changes, but its mostly just the new powerplant that has got me
|
620hp stock. i will take two please. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif
|
620hp that's ******* obscene.
|
maybe a pulley change or some stupid **** will result in another 75hp!
|
a fan on the intake... looks like with a turbo and the works they are gonna be squeezing it for what its worth
|
I suspect this car will be giving all it can give. I will be surprised to see anyone squeeze another 50 HP out of it.
Finally a Vette that is interesting and has a chance at a red light. Almost makes me want to shop for a bigger turbo now. Or maybe put my N2O back in. |
and youre still paying out your ass for the same old car.
chevy and ford need to learn to give it a rest. what are there now like 500 versions of the same mustang? ******* shits stupid. hell heres an idea, upgrade the vette interior one day, otherwise save the motor swaps as crate engines. kevin. |
I hate to say this but I just pulled my just buit Ito motor (I warped an apex seal on the rear while tuning the break in). Ive been looking really hard at putting the new ZO6 in. With a cam its 600hp on pump gas all day every day and below 6,000 RPM.
I have to stress my motor with boost and c16 to get 560HP out of it. Looking at 15,000. Time to the Harley and the Spec Miata. Well see. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.gif |

kevin. All the money I have invested in my "same old car" is still far less than this car will cost and as far as I am concerned the cool factor of my my old FC is off the charts compared to any new car especially a Corvette. But thats just me, I am weird like that. How much do you think that badboy is going to cost considering the Z-06 is 70K? My guess is 100-120K. |
jim- I think he meant new vette owners are paying for the same old car.
I think the car will be $85k, once it breaks $100k then it no longer holds that bang for the buck they strive for |

isnt this kinda of like a slap in the face to the old zr1 which was supposed to have been discontinued i think in 95.. the last zr1 off the assembly line was red and they had a big ass ceremony for it... just come up with something new..
|
The last ZR1 was spectacular for its day too. 405 hp from a quad cam yamaha built v8...

The V8s Yamaha touched were the Taurus SHO, Volvo XC90, and S80 |
Up until a few years ago Yamaha built all of Mercury Marines complex engines, they were building all thier
4 stroke outboard engines until like 5 years ago. I cant say for sure who had thier hands in that engine, saying Mercury built it might have been good practice because more people know Mercury uses GM motors. |

No, actually that V8 was built by Mercury Marine in Oklahoma.
The V8s Yamaha touched were the Taurus SHO, Volvo XC90, and S80 SHO's were v6's... |
They did the same thing to the thunderbird, gave the last one to the guy who bought the first one or some ****, then 5 years later the "t-bird" is back. You get slapped in the face when you buy one of those fuckers anyhow

In 1996-1999 it had a 3.4l DOHC v8 putting out 235 hp |

the older ones had a v6. i knew someone who had one and swore up and down it was a v8, i even popped his hood and counted the plugs for him. he still wouldnt believe it was a 6. |

I expect this car is being targeted towards the Ford GT Crowd? How is this new vette only going to be 15K more than a Z-06. We are all on the same page then, only a fanatic would buy one of these cars, I don't get it. Plus, like you eluded to Kevin, its a Corvette. |

I dont think people will pay over $100k for a vette.
At least the GT40 is a unique and rare car all by itself, not just a tuned version of another car. I cant see people paying double the price and still driving a corvette. |

People will eat it up, pretty much whatever they set the price at. And even at $100k, nothing currently in production will match the performance of this car. The vette is very much american, its not going to have the polish and prestige of some of the european supercars, but at the end of the day, its performance per dollar is damn hard to beat. Not to mention the cult-like following the vette has enjoyed pretty much forever. |
i honestly just dont get the vette. ive driven z06's and yea the engine noise is interesting but money to performance ratio? no get the hell out of here. i honestly dont know how they convince people to pay $70k for a v8 cavalier.
kevin. |
they are convinced because the car can out perform cars costing well over $100k, and its made in the USA.
And yes I know you could take half the money and put it into blah blah and be quicker- thats not the point. point is you can get into a dealership friday afternoon and drive one away, beat the **** out of it and if it breaks they fix it. |
I'd drive one - but I can't afford to. LOL

I totally understand the whole warranty thing but, honestly, the car drives itself and that is boring. One of the biggest reasons I sold my 2003 JCW MINI and bought a 1980 911 was because the MINI, while an awesome car, was boring on the track, it drove itself it made no mistakes. I have heard the same with the newer vettes, very easy to drive unless you turn off the TC. Give me a car that is raw, it may not lap as fast as a new vette but I will have 10X more fun making it go fast. That is driving. I think the new ZR-1 should come with these beauties. https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y2...3/CIMG2789.jpg |
