We have an airshow in town this weekend. I was down by the airport last night and there were 2 fighter jets playing around or practicing who knows. I just stopped and watched them for 15 minutes and could ahve stayed longer.

They are surreal to watch. They were really low flying under the low clouds so they were really loud too. What a rush. I grew up near Grummans testing facility on Long Island I used to see the F-14's all the time and never got tired of seeing them.

Are you military guys the same way? Do you never get tired of seeing them flying?

Never saw too many flying around at 400' below the surface of the sea! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

it is ok but it is better to watch them drop the bombs, i think if i work on these jets much longer i will not be able to hear in ten years, but i like watching the films and bomb cam tapes those are cool especially the ones that show people running from buildings. cool ****

I spent 4 years at Osan AB in S. Korea when I was in the Air Force, had F-16's and A-10's based out of there, there was also a U-2 squadron as well as Marine F-18's that would come in all the time... all the fighters would always take off on full afterburner, especially cool when you had more than one taking off at a time. They didn't have noise restrictions like in the US.

the U-2's were awsome to watch take off and land too, loud as hell taking off at around a 45 degree angle, our squadron was lucky enough to actually be on the flightline every once in a while to watch a take off or recovery, they had a friggin Mustang GT painted AF Blue with the Govt vehicle number painted on the side https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif as a chase car. It would come in REAL slow, land on the landing gear along the centerline and they would catch up to it and stick the pogos under the wing tips, there would be guys at each tip getting them in there, pretty impressive to watch https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

A-10's were simply bad ass too, nothing like hearing one coming and then seeing it pop up from behind a hill

I was in the Navy. Pulled almost four years in Sasebo Japan. I provided security for AF C-130's every Thursday. I thought those were nice until one night we got a C-5 Galaxy! That bee-yotch was huge. Took up most of the flight line.

It's alot cooler to see Apaches and Cobras 5 ft. off the ground, doing manuvers...

Launching C3 POISEDON's is the COOLEST! 7,000 TONS of submarine moving 3' vertically in < 1/10th of a second when the missle is ejected from the tube.

you got that right!! i was on force protection about a month ago and watched 2 c-130's do blackout landings. those guys dropped out of the clouds, hit the ground, and stopped in about the lenght of a football field. glad i wasn't riding. those pilots must have way better nods than us scouts and our pvs7b!!

Nope, never, my office (when I was in) used to be 20ft from the flightline. Take a smoke break and watch planes take off and land. Always fun.
