www.batfa.com sells japanese cars for CHEAP!
Is this for real? Anyone heard of this company? I want the 92 7, but I am thinking about the risk. They don't take check or credit, only direct deposit. Then the shipping seems unreal, only $900. It cost me $850 to have my first 7 shipped from illinois to utah. Anyone know what tax would be on $7800 with customs charges? If this is legit I might snag a skyline from them too, then sell it here to pay for part of the 7. Any help would be appreciated thanks |
well if the company is legit, the prices do seem good, I would Like a skyline too https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
However, once it gets to the USA, the problems begin. It does not meet US emission, or safety standards, so getting it legally regestered may be a problem. Thats the only big problem I can think of |
they dont legalize the cars for you. it takes ALOT to customize the cars to us standards. and ALOt of money. and your without the car for over 6 months.

Cant you register it as a kit car?

I already have two cars...but i sure could go for an R32 skyline....oh yeah...even if i can only drive it on the track https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Woa!
I live in Georgetown KY where Toyota builds the American Camries, these prices are cheaper (with shipping) than buying a domestic model here in town! And 4wd is an option! WOW The Toyota Aristo and Harrier are the same as Lexus models and they are way cheaper. If you had a hook up to change the dash/steering wheel/pedals and emissions for less than 2-3k you would still save a little money. I don't know how much customs would charge you though, that is prolly the determing factor otherwise this is too good to be true. I might call the NYC port authority or customs today, this is most curious. I'll post what I find out... |
Here is an update:
From the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States2004 There is a flat rate of 2.5% for a USED vehicle that does not exceded 3,000cc cylinder displacement, gasoline powered, spark inginted passenger vehicle. There is also a .21% merchandise fee (whatever that means) and .125% Harbor maintenance fee... So 2.835% total tariff... Not too bad so far but I will find out more about the DOT and EPA conversions and post again soon. |
More import info:
LIST OF NONCONFORMING VEHICLES CAPABLE OF BEING MODIFIED BY A REGISTERED IMPORTER = self explanatory. I spoke to a customs agent in Savannah GA and he said by not picking a vehicle on this list you are asking for trouble, like the cost of the vehicle in fees and conversions. REGISTERED IMPORTERS Pick one close to your port of arrival to act as importing agent and possible to do any DOT or EPA mods i.e. exhaust/speedometer conversion/left hand drive/crash standards etc... BOND TO ENSURE CONFORMANCE WITH MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY AND BUMPER STANDARDS This is necessary paperwork to be filled out by you and/or the importing agent. Just means the importer is legally bound to hold your vehicle until it meets DOT & EPA standards. Of the registered importers on the East coast that I called, most of them charge $400-$500 just to act as the importing agent. This does not include any conversion parts or labor. Pricey, but if you had a cool importer and you had your conversion parts on hand at time of importation this would not be too expensive. This may just be a curiosity for some of us but hopefully it helps anyone thinking of importing... Jesse |
SOUNDS VERY INTEResting. I wouldnt mind getting a car from them. I know this guy who gets his cars imported from other countries as is. i think he pays a guy at customs to get em in. He brung over some porche that arnt legal here and he registered it as a porche sold here. I guess now it will be a bit harder given the current situation. Good Luck. The company sounds legit

i am pretty sure you do not need to convert to right side steering.
i base this on the fact that i know a lady who has a mercedes imported from europe and it is left side steering, and her car had no problems getting inspected and registered. its probably just things like turnsignals, brakelights, wipers and emissions applicable to the year the motor was made. |
