man I am sick of this! I finished college in may with an A. S. in Computer Science. and I can't get a job anywhere! everywhere I go they tell me sorry son but with out any past work experience in computers or networking we can't hire you! How does anyone get into the buss then? it is almost a year and I can't find anything! I live in PA right by the NJ and only an hour from NYC so why is it so hard? does anyone have any inside hook ups anywhere or know someone that knows someone?

Try working for an IT staffing firm. You get a couple of temp assignments, and find a good fit. They like you and offer you the job full time.
|
if you were closer I would offer you a job, have to hire a new guy to clean the shop. Most of the guys we hire for that job are laid off or out of work college grads

and this is why college is useless.
experience matters. kevin. |
i bet it went something like this "90% of our students are hired the day they graduate into an exciting carreer in their field of study".
Oh well why are you in a hurry to be a miserable drone working for the man in a poorly lit office making some old scrotum thousands of dollars off of your hard work, only to be stressed out, never home and die at the age of 30 because of a heart attack from the stress and crappy food u ate with wut little time you had each day to shove a big mac down your throat? |
An associates degree is hardly worth the paper its printed on. Go back to school some more if you want to get hired by your diploma

but hey, look at the bright side, there is always the off chance you will survive a couple heart attacks, get your quadruple bypass, work a thankless job utill your late 80's and maybe, just maybe before you die you'll realize how insignificant your existance was and regret all that time you spent rolling out of bed i nthe morning to make some rich **** richer and wish you'd have spent more time with the wife, or laying on the beach, or skiiing down a mountain or maybe you'll be so used to working the thankless job for "the man" that you'll actually wish you had put more hours and worked harder, maybe wish you'd have gone to work on days you were sick and taken less time off.................... but i doubt it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
there's always the off chance that you'll live to a ripe old age and retire, only to sit around the house bitching because your too old, sore and poor to do the things you always said you wanted to do but never had the chance, you'll look out the window of your nursing home at the kids playing and say "if only i knew then, wut i know now". |

so let me ask you this what do you do for a living? I'm retired https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png and you know the more time that goes by the more i start to think about simplifying, i;ve got a house, pool, hot tub, two brand new cars a boat , 60 inch tv, yadda yadda and I don't think that any of that has made Amy and I any happier then we were living i a 1 bedroom apartment driving beat up first gens. So I ask myself, if i had all the money world wut would i do with it, when i was 16 i would have said buy a fast car, and a bigscreen and and a jet to fly around the world and a giant house, now i ask myself this question and the answer would be to live in a little palapa on the beach in some foriegn land where the mailboat visits once a month, , the wife and some sun...... maybe even a trailer lol |

so let me ask you this what do you do for a living? Who Phins?, he counts cash for a living, then bathes in the **** and lights cigars with it and whatnot. but anyway you gotts to find something you love, then figure out how to get paid, and paid well to do it. Or do something that you may not be in love with, but affords you to do the things you want to do (make enough cash and get the time away from work) Only an oversize handfull of jobs require massive amounts of schooling as a pre-requisite, most things that pay halfway well only require a high school diploma/GED, the rest can be gained by work in the field, experience. |

So you're saying that with an engineering degree, its hard to find a job?
|
It would probably be pretty easy to find a job, but will it be a job you love doing? or just one to pay the bills. If it is anything like the architectural field you have to work to the point where you become a partner before you get to show your talent and express your artistic ability and taste, somewhere in your late 40's to early 50's, until that time you get to work under a partner and get stuck doing all the **** they don't want to do.
|
heh i have 4 years tech troubleshooting and repair for computers and 2 years begining networking experiance, and have taken classes in everything... yet i work at a video game store... what luck

So you're saying that with an engineering degree, its hard to find a job? Russel you're gona sweep shop floors for the man, while he spends the raise he didn't give you to take a trip to some exotic island. While he's there he'll laugh at what a sucker you are for wanting to work for him and do all the **** work he doesn't want to do. After its all said and done you'll die an angry poor old man that takes his own life. Or you'll graduate and find a good place to work shortly after and enjoy a life of engineering. A wise man once told me 80 percent of society are lazy and negative about life, if you can become the other 20 percent you'll do just fine. |

well there you all go, 94t has solved the meaning of life, 80% of people are in jobs they can't stand, making **** wages because they have a negative attitude about life and are lazy! So, just grab that positive attitude muster up some ambition and you'll be rolling in the benjamins by the end of the week. whew..... wut a relief. guess we can close this topic now as we have solved his problems. Actually Mr. Cynical, 94t is on to something! A PMA will carry you pretty far in this world. Just try taking a gloomy intellectual attitude with you on a job interview. Chances are you won't get hired because they're looking for a perky "team player" with a smile plastered on his ignorant face. |
I hate teams.
People that smile for no reason also annoy me. |

Chances are you won't get hired because they're looking for a perky "team player" with a smile plastered on his ignorant face. My attitude is not gloomy nor cynical, it is however realistic, it's not realistic for me, but it is for the majority of the people in the US, 80% to quote 94t's statistic. If you think that the majority of us citizens are working in jobs they adore and don't feel they need more money you are wrong. People work hard because they want things if you read all my posts you will see that I do not want for anything i would like to simplify my life a bit. No matter how much money you make you won't be happier, you won't be less stressed unless you alter your perspective, you will always want for more, you'll always find an excuse to work harder. No matter wut you may think I am willing to bet there are very few people in their 80's that wish they would have worked more and spent less time with their family. If all you gather from the bit of sarcasm i posted was that I have a poor attitude and am lazy then you couldn't be any further then the truth, i am the happiest and least stressed i have ever been in my life. I started my own business when i was 19, had 7 employees and busted my ass until i was 22 or 23, 12 hours a day and laying in bed at night stressing over every little thing. I bagged it because of the stress and went to school, i went to school for 2 years and worked, school from 7:30 to 2:30 and work accross the airport from 2:35 to 11:35 and i burned out. I've worked hard and played hard most of my life and I USED to stress over every little thing which got me no where. I don't claim to know any keys to success, happiness or the meaning of life, i don't claim to, i know wut makes me happy and i know wut makes me miserable. I do know sitting behind a computer screen 8 hours a day makes me miserable and nothing could convince me to do it again. If you are happy and satisfied with wut you do then great, i am happy for you, the reality is, the only thing ambition will bring you is the want for more, more money, more **** more everything and the more you want the more complicated your life will become and the harder it will be to keep your positive attitude, when you want for something and you can't obtain it you will become unhappy, when you become unhappy everything in your life will seem shitty. It is the american way to WANT, ya gotta keep up with the jones'. No where did i say a college education was a waste, no where did i say that life sucks, i merely posed some sarcastic "wut if's" that may or may not make you reflect on your own existance. |
I LIKE PARADGIMS!

My attitude is not gloomy nor cynical, it is however realistic, it's not realistic for me... Semantics! I do believe we are very nearly in agreement on this whole issue. I especially applaud your notion of simplifying. I have not been able to accomplish it to any significant degree. The houses keep getting bigger, and the projects more numerous. |
