Yep, that's why my face has been hurting for, I dont know, the last 4 months...I've been trying to be a Rambo and put up with it, but these things are my worst nightmare...How bad does it hurt to have them removed?

the worst part is the hideous cracking/breaking noise they make when the dentist puts both hands in your mouth with the visegrips and using his feet on your chest pulls as hard as he can tearing what feels like your scrotum up thru your sinuses.... other than that,..... it's not bad.











and they give you nice drugs too.

Speaking from experience, meaning, having extracted a couple of 1000 teeth or so in my career, do not put off wisdom tooth removal until you are in pain. Get them out soon.



With that being said, I recommend to all of my patients that wisdom tooth removal should be done under some form of sedation. The best way is IV sedation. You don't hear the noises, you do not feel pain, you are pretty much so comfortable that you could care less of what is going on. It also gives you time to rest after the extractions because you will be recovering from the sedation.



Recovery time can range from a few days to a couple of weeks. you will have discomfort afterwards because this is a surgery just like any other surgery done on the human body. There is post operative discomfort. Good things is there are many different pain medications to help. Make sure though that whatever you are taking post operative for pain medications you need to be taking an anti-inflammatory of some kind. That can be something as simple as Advil 800mg (That is 4 tablets every 6 hours). You must take the anti-inflammatory on a chronic basis (if it is advil it is every 6 hours at the 600-800mg dosage). This actually will go farther for pain control than the narcotic pain medications. Research shows that 800mg of Ibuprofen with a long acting local anesthetic can give the same pain control as 2 tablets of Percodan. Dry sockets (localized alveolitis) will occur. You can be the greatest patient in the world and follow all the instructions given and still end up with a dry socket. They hurt and they usually occure 3-4 days after the surgery, not immediately after. What happens is that you lose the blood clot from the extraction site and there is exposed bonbe which is painful. your doctor can dress this and stop the pain with just some local medicated dressing so don't think you have to put up with the pain.

whoa, theres a dentist on the forum? yeah youll definitely want to be knocked out. theres a lot involved in taking them out. it costs a little more but im sure its worth it. i had mine out and was sedated and everything was not too bad.
