i know im most likely wrong about somthing in here some corect me, and teach me.

so basically nos is nytrogen sulfide or whatever that is storeing oxygen. and when its heated, it lets a lot of oxygen out? so why cant you like, directly inject compressed oxygen into the engine? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

NOS is a company that markets nitrous oxide.

http://www.nitrous.info/

I think pure liquid oxygen is way too hard to keep in a bottle.

So you're saying force oxygen into the engine?

AKA Forced Induction.

Injecting pure oxygen into the engine would accelerate the combustion process so much it would be uncontrolable. With nitrous oxide, the seperation of the nitrogen and oxygen molecules absorbs energy and the left over nitrogen also helps to slow down the combustion rate. Pure oxygen is also very dangerous to store and handle and will explode when it comes into contact with other **** like grease for example.

Its nitrous oxide, AKA laughing gas. Only automotive nitrous contains sulfer. The reason is to prevent people from buying the stuff and using it just to get a buzz.

thanks guys. i knew it would be somthing like that. just so you know, i was talking about pure oxygen not just air.

pure oxygen is how one of the space shuttles blew up, pure oxygen is WAY to combustible and uncontrollable.

kevin.

If i remember correctly the laughing gas and the auto nitrous are no2 and n2o

mazdaspeed7 10-12-2003 08:39 PM

The nitrogen released with N20 is heated acts as a buffer to the combustion process. But even so, nitrous combustion is very unstable compared to FI combustion.
