Your raw speed was 1691522.18 bits per second which is the same as:

Communications

1.7 megabits per second

How communication devices are rated. Kilo means 1,000 and mega means 1,000,000. Examples include 56k modem and 10Mbit Ethernet

Storage

206.5 kilobytes per second

The way data is measured on your hard drive and how file sharing and FTP programs measure transfer speeds. Kilo is 1,024 and mega is 1,048,576.

1MB file download

5 seconds

The time it would take you to download a 1 megabyte file at this speed.

Rating

Compared to all connection types worldwide, yours is fantastic

On a bar graph it showed mine was faster than T1..

Is this any good?

Test yours HERE

SoRRoW 11-17-2002 07:45 AM

Considering I'm on dial up and I'm getting less than 25 KILOBYTES

per second, I'd say you're doing OK. Download 1 meg file in 5 minutes.

I'm going to go cry now...

Ohhhh I'm getting 83k today wow!

I'm on SUPPOSEDLY 128k ISDN but QUEST CAN'T FIGURE out how to make it go faster.

Sucks huh?

Wargasm 11-17-2002 11:31 AM

I hate to tell you guys but all those test sites are pointless.

It measures how fast you are from THAT site to YOUR computer on that exact time/date/whatever.

I'll tell you what, I'll put up a "test site" page here on my LAN in my house... I'll get probably 75+ Megabit/second... Does that mean I have a 75 Mbs connection to anywhere else? Nope.

A more valid way to test your connectivity would be to hit a test site on every major provider's backbone at the same time and average the results...

UUNET, Sprint, Level3, Qwest, etc etc.

This would really tell you if you've got a sweet setup.
