so most of the world thinks that a mechanic(tech) is a con artist who doesnt know his ass from a hole in the ground wich in part is true for alot of techs who are slack jawed yocals but there is a large part of the techs out there who are not. what a tech is is this;

mechanic

doctor

theropist

negociator

mind reader

electrician

plumber

carpenter

welder

fabricator

extream fighter ( for them ******* customers who know it all)

comic

and there are others too. that list is just a part of what a true tech is so the next time you take your broken car to your mechanic give him or her some slack, we as techs are not the ones who drive your car and are not the ones, generaly, break them.

randy

and for the other mechanics out there feel free to add to the list

I talk to folks who often wonder about whether or not they're getting ripped off. I always tell them, take it to more than one place to get an estimate. Usually they can't all lie about the same thing. It's not that big a deal.

If you get scammed, sad to say it's mostly your own fault.

lol got to love the car game, i mean us being techs, we need about 25 to 50k worth of tools some times even more if a **** shop owner doesnt foot the bill for special tools then we got to deal with morronic owners of cars then fix the basket cases and for what about 15% to 20% of the shops labor rate. all im sayin is for these people to please let up on there behavor when coming into the shop damn.

yea techs feel pain too. i get stuck with early 80's cars where people cant understand why even after the new brakes it just doesnt feel new... like WTF!

i had this older guy bring his miata to me, told the writer the clutch was slipping. being the good tech i was i stuck around to hear what the problem was first hand. guy says ya when the car is warmed up the clutch doesnt want to grab. ummmmmm ok prolly a clutch on its way out ( wasnt the tipical chatter problem that a tsb could fix) so the writer sees me standing there asks me what i thought, i say ill take it for a run but its more then likly its goin to need a clutch. the guy swings around( i didnt know old people moved that damn fast) and says what the **** you mean it will need a new clutch, cant you just hook up a scan tool and just push a few buttons and adjust it! it was all i could do to not bust out laughing at that point. i just said ser. although there are many things we can do with the wds or ids adjusting a clutch is not one of them. a clutch is a hydro asist mechanical operating thing in the vehical and they do ware out after so many miles. he says **** this place and walks to his car and leaves , he didnt want to pay 100 an hour for us to change the clutch.

I know a good mechanic has to make a living, but when Audi quoted $350 to change a CV boot, I just couldn't let them do it. I bought a couple tools, spent half a Saturday on it, and its good to go. First time I made $350 on a Saturday in a damn long time!

j9fd3s 03-23-2007 04:07 PM

i have to show the mechanics each part, and tell them how to fix the car, i told the service manager gimmie more money and i'll spend the extra 5 minutes and put it on too
