I got into a bunch of junk on the internet and have been plagued with popups and programs taking over my computer. I've gone through with spybot and other free software and eliminated 90% of this junk, but I still have some crap that pops up suddenly. Any suggestions on software that will go through my system detecting and deleting spyware and other crap?

adaware and spybot as a last line of defense. As the first, I have very strict control over cookies, and I use Firefox for my browser.

Firefox

Same here. You can even download Adblock which lets you block any ad images on certain websites, not just popups. Whenever I'm at work (using IE 6.0) and I get popups (hotmail, weather.com, etc...) I remember how nice Firefox is.

I am using Galeon, on a Gentoo system, for web browsing and such, I have gone completely over to linux, and havn't looked back, the only thing I keep windows around for at all now is games, and in the near future, I may not even need it for that. Good times.

Wow, xp was hard to uninstall. I had to use my 98 startup disk to be able to delete it off the hard drive. But i'm back up and get to start fresh at least. I lost a bunch of my pictures though. I was trying to burn stuff I wanted to save on a disk, but the viruses had everything hosed up so bad I lost them in the process. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

windows 98, 2000 home and xp home are all poorly designed and easily accessed for spy programs, upgrading 98 to 2000 won't help either because it's still the same jumble of ****. 2000 pro and xp pro are set-up in a way that the registry keys and other various enteties cannot be accessed without consent in admin mode.

trend micro handles security, kick ass protection IMO.
