Im taking my test in 26 days and buyin an 02' ducati or ninja. Either a 250,350,450. I haven't looked into them that much but my dad's finace's 2 sons just each bought one and got good deals. No payments, no interest for a year and $50 a month after that. And i only owe $750 on my 7 so its all good. The main reason im buyin this is for transportation until the 7 is done. The oil seals are shot and im getting a J-spec engine, so finally i will have boost, i play on running a haltech too and plenty of other goodies. Its going to take a year to do this project, and i plan on having it kill my bike. And im outta school in 2 days so i need to work and get some cheese. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Welcome to the team... why they hell you buying something so heavy??? and do you mean 250, 600 or 750?
I wouldn't waste your money on the 250, better off buying a used 600 before you buy a new 250. My wife is currently learning/riding my old 600, you don't want to start too big, but you also don't want to outgrow it in 6 months. S-U-Z-U-K-I https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png |
Dude, don't even bother with a 250, they SUCK, plus you look like a ***** riding one!!! Get at least a 600. I agree with phin, SUzuki's are nice handling bikes, good ride too. I suggest a GSX-R 750, but maybe you should start with a Katana for now.
Man I miss my bike :( |
I agree as well, don't do the 250 you will be sorry within a month.
I wouldn't do the Katanka either, Air cooled, low on power compared to everything else in it's class. I'd do the Zuk or a Honda CBR. I almost both a 929 last year and every nice day out am kicking myself ever since. I bought a car instead. |
I have been looking on the net and as u guys have said i think i'll go with a 600. I like the ninjaz and the cbrs... hmmm. Whats everyone's fav here?
|
I ******* loved my ZX-11, I miss it so much

This post makes me want to start on bikes. I always liked the idea of revving past 12,000 RPM with no problem.

Thats one of the reasons i like my 7 so much. Back on the bike deal; I'm only 5' 7' and i weigh 145lbs. Im no big guy, how the hell am i going to kepp one of these big ass bike ( 600-750) from tiping over? I think i need to get a smaller one, even though most of them look kinda week. |
dude your not that small i've seen smaller guys on 1000cc and bigger bikes so you shouldnt have a problem on 600 or 750.
me personally i would go with the 750 gsxr you can pick up a 99 or 00 for about 3-4k in perfect condition. |
LOL my 750 is lighter than my 600. Let's see 365 dry weight and 130+ HP. Yea anyhow, it's more the balance of the bike that will keep it from tipping over rather than you. No matter what bike you are getting if you lay it over too far at a stand still you won't be able to pick it back up.
Personally, I would buy a nice 600, start there. It was about 4 years before I was truly riding the living **** out my 600 and decided I needed something more, now I made a pretty big switch, went from a 91 Katana 600 to a 99 FI GSX-R 750 I've ridden a lot of bikes, but the GSX-R just feels perfect, once you have been riding for a while you'll know what you want. For now I wouldn't even buy a new bike, bike something used. |
I had a friend that was big into the Kawasaki 3 cylinder bikes. H2, H3 and the like.
There was a bike made down in Brazil called the Amazon that was powered by a VW engine. CB performance got a hold of one and they had to put a side car on it to keep it from throwing the rider. Rotary bike....hrmmm. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png There was one, but I was told it kinda sucked due to displacement restrictions by NSU. I'd love to try it, but I'd have to get someone else to test ride it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
The Norton was rotary, it didn't necessarily suck, it was loud as a muther fugger though.

I always liked the looks of the Suzuki SV650. I think it would be a great first bike. After a year or two you could trade it in or sell it for something bigger. I kinda like the naked bikes, plus your insurance would be a little cheaper I believe.

The SV-650 is a neat bike, would actually like to pick one up cause they are cheap, get the full fairings and use it as my track bike. Hard converting the GSXR back and forth even though it a killer track bike.
|
yeah, as far as not wanting a 600 cause you might tip it, I have ridden a 800 (900? not sure) CBR and it was so light I could toss it from one hand to the other without any trouble, plus fun, far too much fun, and I only weigh 165 myself, then again, I learned to ride on a 2001 Fat boy, 800 lb beast, now that thing is one heavy ass bike, but there is something rewarding about lugging around at 35 mph in 3rd gear, and just punching it without shifting, and suddenly be going 70 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
|
CBR 900... and I would consider that a "tank" so that gives you a pretty good idea of the weight differences, there really isn't much, in fact a 99 GSX-R 750 weighs less than a 99 GSXR 600
|
damn you all, now I want a bike, hmm, maybe I could get that, for a daily driver, and keep my FC as autocross, and girlfriend transporter, with some drifting in between, hmmm, pricewise, what kind of bike should I look at? cheap, reliable, and semi quick, wait, I think i just described a honda.
|
HA HA yea the "semi-quick" was the deal maker! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
|
hey, you know the saying, "speed kills, drive a Honda"
besides, the 11-12 second 1/4 that the CBR900 I drove does is more than enough for me, especially on 2 wheels, and I am cheap, horribly horribly cheap. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |

If you buy a smaller bike, youll bore quickly of it. |
Yea you can pick Honduh's up pretty cheap, especially the 600's.
And I can't think of any sportbikes off hand that are 600 to 700 pounds, that is insane for a sportbike, a Hardley yes, I know the Kawasuki's are heavy, but even the 1100 isn't that heavy. |
GSX-R 750 Dry Weight 365
GSX-R 1000 Dry Weight 374 Kawi 12R Dry Weight 468 Honduh 954RR Dry Weight 370 Just a quick run down on the weights. |
No the weight was closer to 500 lbs, I got it brand new in 92, sold it over 6 years ago, give me a break, lol. Had a V&H SS2R on it ( got it polished of course), carb kit, electric shifter, oil by-pass kit, timing kit, it was a animal. At the time it was the fastest and the quickest stock bike made, now I dont even know whats out there, after losing 2 friends to motorcycle accidents, I kind of lost interest if you know what I mean.

I'm looking at this one.Ninja ZX-6R

http://www.suzukicycles.com/sr_02/sp...650_silver.jpg Speaking of, the Ducati M620 shouldn't be too bad of a bike to start on, from what I've heard, and Ducatis seem to maintain their value nicely. I was thinking of buying one, but I don't make enough money to really go for it. I may soon be getting a 1976 Honda CB750F Super Sport as my first bike. I'm stoked! |
The problem with a duck is the money to maintain it, parts cost a fortune and they tend to break more often then japaneese bikes... not that I don't like ducks but that is definetely a consideration.
