BitTorrent is a pseudo P2P program. Suprnova was a "tracker" site which distrubuted .torrent files. In order to obtain something using BitTorrent, one would go to a tracker site, download the .torrent file, and your computer would contact the tracker. The tracker would tell your client who to contact to receive the file. BitTorrent's protocol is actually very impressive. It rewards uploaders but providing them with the faster seeders. Also, it is multithreaded, so you can download many different parts of the file, there's no sequence to it.



Seeders are people who have the entire file and are still sharing it. Once you complete a download, it is etiquette to maintain a 1:1 ratio. You download the file and you upload it to keep the network alive.
