I think this is a spoof of the Taiko drum troop. There is a group of 20-30 Japanese nationals that travel the world playing big event. It is amazing each one has such a minor role but together it is awesome. They have some of the most irregular and odd drum beats.

Apparantly there are 8,000+ Taiko drum troops in Japan. The one I saw was nothing special but just cool as hell...

My best drumming memory was seeing Paul Simon during the Rhythm of the Saints tour, when he had 4 or 5 drummers going nuts the whole time. It was quite a sight.
