I love wallyworld. Great prices, name brand products.. Only place where you can shop for groceries, clothes, electronics, eat McDonalds, get an Auntie Anne's pretzel, a haircut, an oil change, new tires and rent a movie.

Why are so many against this fine establishment ?

banzaitoyota 08-27-2005 07:36 AM

1. Customer Service sucks. Nothing like standin in line for 20 minutes staring at a sea of EMPTY unmanned registers.

2. Deceitful Presentations to the community: "walmart will create 100 NEW Full time jobs when we open"; the standard line gicven at meetings. What they dont tell you is that full-time is considered 28 hours per week.

3. Predatory Supplier Pricing. Walmart will say: You will sell me 1 gallon jar of pickles for $1.00, if you dont we wont carry the rest of your product line.

Need more reasons?

Wal-Mart is the perfect distillation of everything that is bad about "big business". They flat-out suck.

Politics aside, from a customer standpoint, much of their product offering is made in China crap, and their customer service is lousy, particulary with regard to the checkout situation mentioned above.

Let's see... the product sucks...the customer service sucks. What else do they have to offer?

Not a damn thing!

Shane.Trammell 08-27-2005 08:24 AM

Companies will make different product to be sold in walmarts. I know this bc i bought some hanes socks at walmart and target on the same day and the ones from walmart crapped out a lot sooner than the target ones. Actually i think i still have some of the target ones, and that was a few years ago. You guys may say that there was a difference in production time or whatever but go look at products at walmart and then look at the same item somewhere else. The one at walmart will probably be much lower quality than the one from the other store.

Shane.Trammell 08-27-2005 08:31 AM

Oh and walmarts get out of paying taxes. They will bargain with cities before they build and get a period of like 10 years where they dont pay taxes. Cities know that walmarts create economic growth, if you dont beleive me look where theyve built a new walmart, that area will be the area of new development. They do also create quite a few jobs for the welfare leeches, from the barber shop, the optometrist, the mcdonalds, the bank, the deli, the pharmacy, the bakery, the shop, and the rest of the store. When the end of the tax free period comes they just build a new store and close the old one.

i waited in line one day for about 10-15 minutes to return bad meat... they gave me double my money back because the meat was bad. i thought that was pretty good.

maybe its just because we got a new superwalmart here about 1-2 years ago.. everything seems like its running smoothly.

Shane.Trammell 08-27-2005 08:45 AM

i know i would never buy meat at walmart. Everything else is second rate, i would guess that the meat is too. I dont even want to think about the conditions of the stockyard where the meat comes from

well after 2 bad experiences with their beef, i now buy all meats locally up the road at a small meat market..

but minus the quality of the beef, I still think its a cool place. seriously, i went to food lion and safeway after shopping in wal-mart and the prices for some foods are almost double.

Shane.Trammell 08-27-2005 08:57 AM

i dont really mind shopping at walmart, but i usually just buy toiletries there. It seems like everytime i go there i get cheered up bc it seems like everyone is in a good mood and friendly (not the employees but the customers). Maybe its bc there are people of all different races there and it seems like theyre all getting along, something you dont really see around here otherwise. Or maybe its bc i see all of these people who dont have much money and it makes me see how much i actually do have.

sweet7 08-27-2005 03:42 PM

Yeah, I'll buy little random odds and ends there. But I'll never buy meat there instead of the Supermarket. I'll never buy expensive electronics there instead of going to Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. The only major investment I ever made at Wal-Mart was some of those kickass fake "Dubs" that you put on over you're factory wheel. Its lightweight plastic, good for racing, and when ever they get a "scuff" you can just spray paint over it.

psyclo 08-27-2005 07:31 PM

If I had a choice in my college town I would shop at Target or somthing instead for everything other than the essentials.

WalMart tends to sell cheapy stuff. They know how to do busniess and sell products for less than other stores but I will let my money play politics as I don't think they are good for the market in the long term.

boxrs4sale 08-27-2005 10:12 PM

anyone have an article or something that proves wal-mart sells cheaper versions of goods?

Rob x-7 08-27-2005 10:53 PM

buying meat at WalMart?

I buy my meat from nice italian butchers, Tony and Joe

They know me and I know them, what ever happened supporting your local bussiness?

Egg ******* sactly. Walmart puts small businesses out of business. They draw their customers in by offering cheap prices, but the catch is that they have "better" products right next to them which most people buy. So people go in for cheap prices but end up buying the "higher end" products for more, though they may not be better. I shopped at walmart for two weeks for food, and then reverted to going to smaller stores around town because the food was 100 times better. The quality presentation and taste were far superior. And I'm a college student trying to mind my dollars. I would much rather shell out a couple extra bucks at a mom and pop shop than buy something from walmart because A. I know the quality is better B. I know that I'm supporting the community, and C. because I get a more personable experience. Walmart doesn't support the community for crap. All of the money they make goes to corporate so they don't reinvest it into the community, and very little is taxed by the state. I hate Walmart and refuse to shop there pretty much at all.

Its Wal-mart, it always is a wait, and we all love to hate it. But no matter how much we all bitch about, we will always still go there. Oh well.

Sam's is hard to beat. Not only can I get the things I like, I can get a shitload of it as well.

I haven't been in a Wal-Mart in over a year. If you really want to, you can break your addiction and get clean too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

I know that I have seen references, I believe it was in Consumer Reports magazine, to items that are available only through Wal-Mart. There is no question that a retailer with their buying volume is going to influence the manufacturers who sell to them.

Sanyo, ILO, Norcent, Durabrand, etc. are only offered through wal-mart. Sanyo electronics are pretty nice, but don't last for more than 2-3 years honestly. I have bought many things from wal-mart, and it was mostly electronics. Video games, DVD's, a TV, etc. I always bought the name brand video game hardware, I never bought Sanyo products.

****, I worked there for close to 3 years, and not ONCE did I break 8 dollars an hour. They don't pay employees enough money, unless you eat alot of the managers ****.

What a **** hole!
