So I have come to the decision that VTEC is the most entertaining thing ever. It makes for a good laugh everytime it kicks in. I was riding with my buddy lastnight and hes got a GSR which obviously has VTEC and he gets so serious, but i can help from breaking down and laughing everytime it kicks in. Is this normal??

j9fd3s 10-26-2006 11:05 AM

yes, thats normal. vtec = a copy of porsche's vario cam technology

So Porsche thought of this amazing contraption first or is it different?

ExplicitRotary 10-26-2006 11:23 AM

Could you imagine how hilarious the VTEC on an NSX would be, im almost thinking i would almost sufficate laughing so hard, cuz we all know the 'lil 4 banger VTEC sounds like an angry retard. An NSX would have to sound like something never heard and never replicated a whole new world of VTEC

its a comment from here http://www.bellengineering.net/Pages/comments.html

Conclusion #3: Porsche will one day build either aluminum, copper or silver compressor outlet tubes, and when they do, we will once again be able to claim we plagiarized their design.

even though porsche thought of it second, they are german and thus get the credit...

real world example;

i brought an rx8 home, let dad drive it. later that night he goes, the new bmw/mercedes has electronic power steering, its supposed to be really good. its new and innovative.

i go, um the car you just drove had that.... mazda had it 2+ years ago

like vtec, the rotaries had the equivalent (6 ports) in 82, and if you really wanna cheat about it, NSU had that in 1965....

ExplicitRotary 10-26-2006 12:04 PM

NSU?

Yes, Ive drove in an NSX.

I've also looked at S2000 just before bought my MX5.

I personally didn't think it was worth extra 10K for an S2000 when MX5 did just fine with out the VTEC.

ExplicitRotary 10-26-2006 12:17 PM

So s2k isnt much faster then an MX5?

Not faster enough for me to pay 10K more... Go test drive one. I drove a new 06 model with only 3 miles on it.

Lady told me not to redline it,.. Well, I did it anyhow.

Hilarious. even chirpped 'em in 2nd https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.gif musta been all that torque haha. Whom ever voted no, please... elaborate

drunkin_idiot 10-28-2006 09:11 PM

Why is it funny, VVT is cool, I got constant VVT in my Ser its fun. My **** sounds like Vtec when the secondaries kick in.

inanimate_object 10-29-2006 03:27 AM

I voted no, I think honda make great engines - just a shame they're usually stuck in fwd family boxes. Look at the ariel atom still going strong after all the years, and there's loads of kits out there taking advantage of honda power - I've even got one in mine, although it doesn't have vtec - but it doesn't stop it revving to 11k and it should shift the car to 60 in about 4 seconds https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif
