so rather than spending lotsa money on a paint job or lotsa time doin it myself, i looked into vinyl wrapping n im wonderin if there's any place that'll just sell me that crap and let me be on my way to do it at home.

or would you say just flat black the damn car and save?

either way will look equally as spectacular and raise the resale along with it

his location says sylmar , so that should be California, there are many big sticker/vinyl shops in cali that do full vinyl for cars, be it for race or for advertising. just gotta ask around. probably expensive though. The roller paint idea should work for a budget, i have seen a few pics of some cars, and i have rattlecanned some sections of vehicles. When done right it can have very good results, BUT it will never compare to a proper paint job. I dont know about the link 1988 posted but i had seen one of a ford ranger done in rustoleum yellow.. came out looking great. wonder how those hold up to weather and the elements..

most race cars now are wrapped only. it chipps really easy and will peel off when it gets chipped. and to wrap a whole car is expencive with the correct wrap. i was talkin to a fella who wrapps race cars and he was talkin about 3 grand and over for basic single and dual color wraps. could have included his labor too though.

lol roller a car, good stuff.

teknics 07-08-2009 10:23 PM

that roller paint job is an intraweb classic, i was just thinking about trying to find it again like last week!

3k? thats insane, real paint is under $1000

unless its SCCA, where the finishing position in the concours is what gets you points

Rob x-7 07-09-2009 12:59 PM

real paint is not $1000, **** paint is $1000

its a race car, race cars hit things, and get hit by things...

look at the 2007 car, all that damage happened in the first 90 min, we took the other 23 hours to put tape on it

I have a buddy in Minnesota with a old el camino . He tells me in that area he has been quoted over 5k for a two paint job on his Elco.

75 Repu 07-09-2009 04:13 PM

OMG mikey i never noticed it was a 4 door teggy.. those are sexy.

phinsup 07-09-2009 08:33 PM

you could take it to a local les schwab or Maaco to get a cheap ass race car paint job, they run specials for like 199 or 299 for the "primo" you drop it off you pick it up you pay them $200 it looks a little better the roller or "wrap", seems win win, it would probably cost you that much just to buy the materials and rattle can or roller it.

teknics 07-10-2009 08:22 PM

a race car paint job, isn't a "real" paintjob, any hack can "paint" a car. A "real" paint job requires skill.

A guy I know works at a local shop that does vinyl. He said they now have a painted vinyl that looks like nice paint, but can be peeled off, but it costs something like $3k for a car.

It's actually a painted vinyl, so you get the custom look of any type of paint code you like, with the ability to peel it off later when you choose. Very cool stuff for those wanting to change the color of a vehicle and don't want to do anything permanent.
