You know, considering only 2 valves per cylinder, and no magic like VTEC, or dashpots and tappets, even a 2-bbl V8 makes a LOT of power comparatively to other high-tech engines that have these things. And they don't blow Apex seals every 5 minutes.

2-bbl by the way is CARBURETOR TYPE for all you EFI/TBI people. Jeez.

theres nothing terribly impressive about big displacement making big power. do more with less, we do it without a valvetrain, pushrods, connecting rods, cams, or timing chains. Did I mention less weight too? Oh, and rotary engines havent even recieved a fraction of the development v8's have, we get superb performance from a design from mazda (hah!) consisting of iron rotating components and iron engine housings. Imagine if a real performance company made an attempt.
