as the title state's it's just talk. i had a crazy idea and thought it should share it.



i was watching g4tv and saw this tri turbo supra that to me looked like a waste of money,



on a scale of one to ten my turbo knowldge and experence is at 7.



alot of people have twin turbo kits, they are common place, but most people either complain about lag, or the turbos with great spool have little or no top end.



so get this, use three turbos but keep the traditional twin set up @14psi(something kinda small), and the exaust that runs out the twins to the route them into a T76 or T88 set to(10-15)psi, so you end up with 24-30psi.



you have two run two waste gates, but you will have the instant boost of smalles turbos, and the top end of a T88, since there are turbos in front of the t88 it should also spool faster.



ok this was a dream i had so no flaming, i think it sounds like a good idea, just wanted to hear what you guys thing.

after the exaust passed through the twins it wouldn't have the velocity or pressre to properly spool the bigger turbo. If anything, you would run through the t88 first, but even then, I doubt it would work.

Whatever happened to turbos that can very their size? VNT or something...I think they are used on diesel trucks but I could be wrong.



This way when the turbo runs out of breath (or just before hand) it increases its volume...



I could have just pulled that out of my ass but I remember reading about these in a Turbo-specific issue of SCC.

yea its still in prototype stages at garrett, i believe its garrett. But yea its VMT or VNT or something. It acts as a small turbo so it spools up fast and then changes its volume through some sort of electronic monitoring thing and because a huge, good tope end turbo. Seen it get installed in a deisel trucks on "Trucks!" on tv.

Hmmm...in that case we should design a turbo system where there are two identically sized turbos. Initially, the exhaust gases will spool up the first turbo and divert a small percentage to the second turbo. Then, when the first turbo produces a specified amount of boost, allow the exhaust gases to spool BOTH turbos, thereby providing good bottom and midrange power.



Let's do it.

1. The small turbo for low-rpm range/large turbo for high-rpm range has been done on a multitude of cars.

2. Variable vane technology is also used on a number of cars - the Honda diesel being one of them.
