So I know the 13b is a great turbo spooler. So lets say a tuned FD pushing close to 416 - 420 on pump gas was on the street. What kind of power would lets say a 3000gt vr or a supra need to have to keep up.

(trying to anlayze the weight vs. power advantage)

fd35? wtf is that?

Your going to have to do some serious things to your car to get that kind of power.. I don't think the stock twins can do that kind of power.. I don't doubt it's happened before.. but it's not usually likely to occur..

vosko 01-25-2003 02:54 PM

i'd say 500-600 hp

rx7machine 01-25-2003 03:02 PM

i'd say 500-600 hp
Was this refering to how much hp a supra or 3000 would have to have in order to keep up with a 416-420hp 7? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

At least he didn't ask about reliability... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

well joe(mbt04s) has both a modded FD and a modded MKIV.... it takes more HP to make up the weight on both of those cars......

rx7machine 01-25-2003 03:18 PM

Yup!
That's badass.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Yea, really..

Oh ok. How much extra weight is added to the average/heavily modded FD?

1Revvin7 01-25-2003 04:07 PM

thats why 7s are badass, the competition needs a damn lot of power on the street to keep up. At the local hangout, with like all tuner cars from the big cities in MN, the fastest cars are the 7s, there is one supra that owns the street though, buts thats in its race setup, 700hp+. I plan on owing a lot ppl this summer :bigok: https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif .

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif 7!

Actually I would say most heavily modified FD's are lighter than stock since most of the aftermarket replacements parts are going to be lighter. Ie suspension, DP, MP, exhaust, and I know my single turbo setup is much lighter than the stock twin setup.

Re: The horsepower/weight, my rule of thumb is for every 7lbs heavier their car is, they need 1hp more. Likewise, lightening a car by 7lbs is the same as adding 1hp.

So a car that weights 700lbs more needs 100hp more to keep up. nocab72 - Rule of thumb.

Hey look ive been quoted in a sig.

1Revvin7 01-25-2003 04:14 PM

Die 7 besitzen alle!

RotaryRetard 01-25-2003 05:16 PM

well if i asked about reliabaility, the most common reply would be it's in the tuning (which it is). but i have only had my fd a shory while before i was driving a 12a bug (which was hella fun) just trying to sort out a good hp # for an fd for it s weight. I have 400 was almost too much for the street. so what kind of #'s do you think is good for a purely street setup (enough to take some cars but not take the super cars I.E. 700+hp supras)

Apex13B 01-25-2003 05:42 PM

a 3000gt vr4 would need 750 hp at least since their curb weight is close to 4000 pounds...never mind if the clutch makes it with a heavy ass 4wd car

amp 01-25-2003 07:40 PM

there are other factors youll need to consider...

its not all about hp and straight runs...

And all the shitty plastic parts mazda used... And the restrictive ass exhaust components... and....

But yeah... Lots of people skip the tuning part...
