You're going to tow the 1st gen with the towbar, right? It should be fine, but if you're going far you'll want to remove the driveshaft.

Yuppers that's what I'm after. My only worry is attaching it and not wrecking the oil cooler as it does hang down fairly low on the 79.

It's not a good idea to have the transmission spinning in neutral for a long time. I would say that more than 20-30 miles and you should remove it. |

IF you do remove the driveshaft, make sure you mark it and put it in the same way you took it out, it is possible to put it in 180 degrees out and have a vibration after.
