nopistons94 07-18-2005 05:08 PM

whoa how does that work man? do i need to sign up or something?

ApneaBlue 07-18-2005 05:14 PM

This is my understanding. there are these files called torrents and they sorta...hmmm...point to all the people who are sharing the file. you kinda jump into this download loop. people put torrents up pointing to certain files. you open the torrent and then start downloading. You need some bit torrent software to download them. The only thing is (for me anyway) it alwasy seems like a challenge to get some of this **** to play since they are encoded using God knows what and you have to hunt down codecs and filters all over the place. Which is what I am doing now.

nopistons94 07-18-2005 05:16 PM

so do you have this torrent downloading program you can send me?

ApneaBlue 07-18-2005 05:17 PM

search for and download G3 Torrent. according to a buddy of mine, that's the fastest one.

Dave 88 A.E 07-18-2005 10:31 PM

Try downloading DivX that might work. I know it worked for me.

ApneaBlue 07-18-2005 10:41 PM

Downloaded the divx player and still no go. used BSPlayer, divx player, zoom player and none of them like it. Seems from the title of the file it's xvid encoded using some FOV encoder. I have the xvid codec installed already and the dam thing still fails to run.

This may sound crazy, but try Windows Media Player.

If you have the correct codec (XviD in this case), it should play in any media player on that computer. In theory, of course.

ApneaBlue 07-18-2005 10:46 PM

Tried WMP 9 and WMP Classic :(

Link to the Xvid thing you downloaded? I'm not convinced you have the CODEC installed on your computer...

ApneaBlue 07-18-2005 10:58 PM

http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

I got the one for windows and installed it.

Leetheslacker 07-18-2005 11:34 PM

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

ApneaBlue 07-18-2005 11:45 PM

tried gspot and no workie.

Dysfnctnl85 07-18-2005 11:50 PM

There are many flavors of XviD depending on who compiled it. I think your best bet is to get the Nimo codec pack. Let me find you a link. Read all the screens and just install the XviD stuff.

Dysfnctnl85 07-18-2005 11:52 PM

Nimo

Get Build 8. See if that helps at all.

Rx7Widow 07-19-2005 01:21 AM

Call Josh when you get home tomorrow, he works 8-5. I haven't seen one he can't figure out.

ApneaBlue 07-19-2005 09:33 AM

Think I'll have to do that.

thanks.

spaceman Spiff 07-19-2005 02:41 PM

ok first off, are you sure you got a current version of xvid codec? and also did you get the one for windows? the two fastest clients are exeem and ABC (another bittorent client) i use ABC and get download rates of 200 kb/s+ i dont know what you are getting... but make sure to forward ports 6881-6889 if going through a router. and try this version of xvid i think it is the one i am running.

xvid

ApneaBlue 07-19-2005 02:59 PM

75 Repu 07-20-2005 01:38 AM

CrashFactory 07-20-2005 02:03 AM

As dumb as this sounds...do you have the WHOLE file downloaded? (as in all the files contained in that dvd), cuz you download torrents in pieces just like any other P2P, and you may not be able to play it cuz headers are missing or crap like that yada yada yada..that's also why I only get music off them :P

Doesn't sound dumb...The torrent I got it from has the entire last season of friends. So there's about 17 episodes or something in it. Each one is about 250+mb.

so I am pretty sure it's the whole enchalada.

spaceman Spiff 07-20-2005 01:19 PM

well what he meant is, is it all done downloading, because you knoe you cant play them while it is downloading.

drftk1d 07-20-2005 01:21 PM

what program are you using to download?

ambassador_josh 07-21-2005 07:13 AM

Update:

Dude this is gonna piss you off..I downloaded it and double clicked it...and it worked

ApneaBlue 07-21-2005 07:25 AM

son of a bitch! I had gspot and everything installed on my system. ****** a. anyway, I uninstalled every codec pack on my system yesterday and will try gspot again.

Thanks the help.

Dragon 07-21-2005 08:31 AM

I've been using bittorrent for a few years now.. Stay away from exeeme (sp) it's loaded with some not so cool spyware... I've used many BT types of software and Bittornado is my favorite.

If your going to DL with bittorent you will want to find and install a .rar file extracting program for extracting compressed files that are often put up for DL.

You will also want Alcohol 120% for burning VCD's and DVD's that are usually ripped to .bin file format. You should be able to find both of these programs fairly easily on Bittorent sites for DL.

I have 5 codec packs installed on my computer and I haven't run in to anything I can't play in over a year. Just do a google search for codec packs and install a few of them and you should be good to go. Run spybot and some other spyware killers after you install the codecs to kill any other crap that they may install with the codec's.

The Yahoo toolbar has Anti-spy built in to it that will scan your computer for crap and it works quite well and it is free.

Hope this all helps some you new BT users...

ApneaBlue 07-21-2005 11:56 AM

IT WORKS!

Ok, so I think I just had too much **** installed on the system...I had every codec compounded on top of codec and I think everything was conflicting.

Conflicting so badly that WMP quit working all together. I had to go reinstall SP2 and it started working again.

Rebooted and then fired up Nimo install but just checked the XVID and AC3 filter which is what the file required (thanks Josh for figuring that out)...Now it fires right up.......I am able to play the one file on my laptop but lets see if it actually plays the others...don't see why it shouldn't.

I will open up my media server pretty soon to GenD.

I have over 70 gig worth of music and about the 70 or so movies. If I can get my FTP server to work right then we can all share our crap.

Thanks to all y'all that helped with this.

Dave

spaceman Spiff 07-21-2005 12:10 PM

new exeem is free of spyware...

ambassador_josh 07-21-2005 12:27 PM

As soon as you get the server worked out, I'll have some stuff I can send your way...just finished d'ling Night Watch, a Russian movie they're bringing to the US. It looks awesome, but the movie iteself has problems...its in Russian, but with english subtitles (in a different .sub file) that you overlay with vosub...here's the problem-

Its also an AC3 audio formated movie. For whatever reason, it wont play audio (even if russian) and subtitles at the same time. WMP will do subtitles, DIVXplayer will do audio, but its very faint even with the speakers cranked all the way and all the volume sliders up everywhere... Man I hate reading movies lol

But Dave once you sort that prob you are having with the FTP, I'll make short work of that 50 GB you have free https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

ambassador_josh 07-24-2005 03:13 PM
