I got the latest issue of Motor Trend and they had some Top Fuel Dragster statistics in it.

I thought some of you may want to read some of them, for those who do not get the magazine.

Approximate Peak HP from a 2005 Top fuel dragster = 7500

Engine Displacement = 500

Maximum Boost = 45.5 psi

RPM of the Supercharger = 12,654

Temperature of the Supercharger after 4.5 seconds of boost = 165 F

Uses 77 gallons of fuel per minute at WOT (22.75 for warmout, burnout, staging and the 1/4 mile run)

New Top fuel engine costs around $58,700

28 quarts of oil used in warmup, staging and a 1/4 mile run

Maximum weight is 2225lbs.

300 inch wheel base

3000 inches of chrome moly tubing to build the chassis

The rear tires cost approximately $1082.00

Rear tires are held on by 58 bead lock bolts with each tire inflated to 6.5 to 7.5 psi

0-100mph in 0.84 seconds

Fastest run was in 2004 by the US Army dragster at 333.08 mph

Driver experiences almost 6g of deceleration when the chute opens

12,000 lbs of downforce is created by the rear wing at 325mph

The flames can shott out 85 inches from the headers

The rear tires grow 8.5 inches under acceleration to a maximum of 44.5 inches

Record speed for top fuel is 4.441 second 1/4 mile by the US Army Dragster last year

If a Dragster makes through the standings and the finals they will have only run 18 seconds of time.

Total racing time for the season is less than 7 minutes.

Sorry to waste your time but I thought this was interesting.

Where's the stat about how much downforce the exhaust alone provides? I don't remember the exact number.

Yet CARB thinks WE'RE doing all of the wasting...

That kind of effort just to go in a straight line for 4 seconds seems pretty stupid to me.

It's like a bunch of controlled explosions, transferring the power to the wheels. I think it'd be cooler if they just wore a thick metal plate on their back, with a bomb on the other side. Slap some roller skates on, like the fuse, and see who makes it down the fastest.
