If you're on a budget, I think you're on the right track. You absolutely must find what's on sale. They routinely cut prices on this stuff to move it. You can save a lot of money if you catch it on sale.

I'm not sure what Craftsman's warranty is like on their tool boxes, and I don't think the cheaper Craftsman is all that good really. Look around, kick some tires.

All brands are made by the exact same company, waterloo industries.

i wasnt too impressed with what lowes had to offer. Most the slides on the display models seemed already broken and for the size i was looking for the selection was horrid. Ended up at sears happy with what i got but what the store had in stock really limited me. Got their 41" 11 drawer bottom chest in stainless for 500.00(odd they only stock the more expensive options?). by time i grabbed an impact, drawer organizers, and non slip for the drawers id spent 950.00. sadly for the loading crew they had one guy who couldnt lift the 210 pound box into the back of the trailblazer so i had to do it on my own. heres the link to the tool box. I think i did alright

Matco snap-on and Mac. I have a ton of matco tools but I have a hodge-podge box cause I'm a cheapskate lol. The trucks usually have used boxes and if it's of their brand they'll cover it with their lifetime warranties.

The new US General stuff harbor freight carries is high quality. Its made by the same company that does craftsman(and most lower end) toolboxes, but they feel way better built than some of the craftsman stuff. I currently have an older craftsman, and Im happy with it. But I havent been as impressed with some of the newer craftsman stuff. Kinda seems like they made their low end stuff worse to make their higher lines look better.

My tool cart is from us general and it is pretty nice.

I have a few boxes right now, the nicest is the Beach, much better rollers than the 3 different craftsmen boxes I have. Second would be the Mac roller cabinet. The craftsmen stuff just doesn't feel as solid or as smooth.

I have a Mac tool box, it's held up for years.

I don't see much value for the money in that kind of stuff from Snap On. Is it really worth 5000+ more than any other tool holding box, besides the fact you could open up a Mcdonalds in the side compartments. And once you put tools in them you need a bobcat to move them.

Some Snap on stuff is special and is worth coin , this isn't one those pieces.

What bugs the hell out of me about some snap on stuff, is when you see the exact same tool somewhere else for cents on the dollar compared to snap , and all they did was print their name on it.

Even Mac is like that to now.

Lots of tool boxes are made in Quebec/Ontario, and I don't think the reason is cheap labour.

well as an update im being mocked now for the shiny stainless steel.. otherwise had no real issues with the box, and the 710 impact i got with it has been a beast. Surprisingly quiet too

You can't beat a nice box to put your tool in!

Seppuku 04-22-2011 08:22 PM

indeed

If you scratch it bad, a little metal polish will fix it right up, where as with paint, well.... I really like the stainless boxes, think I am going to put my current boxes on kijiji and go buy a couple of those costco boxes.
