Been looking at all the employee pricing deals, figured it was a scam, but they are cutting about 7,000 to 8k off a new truck, which is pretty damn good, not sure I can get enough for my truck on trade in, but if I can I might do it.

rotarychainsaw 09-04-2005 07:17 PM

But gas?

HeffSpooled 09-04-2005 07:17 PM

Have you been looking at Dodge? I really think highly of that Cummins Diesel. The potential of that lump is amazing. My cousin had one that had been stepped on pretty hard and I've never run across a diesel with that kind of throttle response, not to mention soul-crunching amounts of torque.

And believe this or not, but I ran into one on a backroad once while I was on my sportbike, and had a little trouble getting around him because that truck was surprisingly fast on the straights. I would come out of a corner behind him and get fogged when he opened it up. He had a big ****-eating grin on his face when I finally got by. I'm sure that one had been stepped on as well.

Blah, blah,

Cheers

phinsup 09-04-2005 07:19 PM

I looked at the dodge, but I can't afford the diesel, as far as gas, the milage is gonna be about the same towing, if not better on the big truck, I get about 12 miles to the gallon towing. I only use my truck for towing, otherwise it just sits, so I am not too worried about gas as if the prices get too high I won't be able to run the boat so I won't be towing LOL

boxrs4sale 09-05-2005 07:34 PM

got an idea.. sell truck, buy honda.. save gas and on payments.

keep boat parked in lot of marina, and pay the dude who owns the marina 10 bucks whenever you want to drop it in the water.

then borrow friends truck at end of season to tow it home.

First off there's no "end of season" here. Second, I have thought about storing it, however you then have to buy from a fuel dock which is usually significantly more then on shore, not to mention I like to take the boat to the keys and i don't always launch out of the same place.

Although I did decide to **** that idea, the deals are good, but not great. I am going to throw the air suspension in my truck so it doesn't ride like a tank without the trailer on, I've got helper springs in the back now.

That should do it. Figure all i am really gaining on a bigger truck is cabin space, the tow capacity isn't really that much more.

Age is irrelevant, necessity is the operative word, it's just money.

phinsup 09-06-2005 12:04 AM

It comes and it goes and ya can't spend it when you're dead, that's all I know about money.

isamu 09-06-2005 12:12 AM

My brother has like an 01 Dodge and its a nice truck. It has an air bag suspension system and it rides nice. My brother has towed a boat, hauled a camper with no problem. I've never been a big fan of their style but they definitely do the job.

Lapis_Blue 09-06-2005 01:07 AM

get a titan. i know they dont got employee discount but i can attest to their bad-assness. other than that, just like you were saying, stay away from diesel cuz they arent worth it unless you are tryin to pull the titanic out of the water

Yea it pretty much is, they may be cutting more off the price from the factory, however they don't give **** for trade ins at this point. Its pretty much give and take you aren't gonna get ahead with car dealers. Hoping my air suspension gets here before I go to the keys with the boat.

venomrx7 09-06-2005 09:08 AM

Nissan titan is crap. They have more problems than are worth fixing.

Get a tundra!!

TYSON 09-06-2005 09:32 AM

If you're towing only every couple weeks I gotta think it would be way cheaper to rent a truck or van only when you need it.

I dunno even if I did only use it every couple of weeks, its a pretty major inconvenence to rent anything.

I would never be without a truck of some sort, seems I am always hauling **** to and from home depot.

My truck tows the boat fine, maybe uses a little more gas then I'd like but I dunno that there's much way around that.

I don't understand this. Diesels are more economical all the way around and shine even more brightly when hauling/pulling loads. And if you don't have any problem runnin' the red stuff then it gets even cheaper. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

B99 Bio-Diesel is Cheaper than DINO-DIESEL

Dave G. 09-06-2005 05:33 PM

I picked up a 98 Chevy dually, crew cab long bed for $9800 from a chevy dealer in Texas. I bought it off ebay of all places. The same truck here would have cost me $14000+! Mine had 107K when I bought it, and I haven't had a single problem in the 2 years I have owned it. My partner at the shop bought an 03 F350 diesel, and it has had OVER 10 visits to Ford to fix stuff. Everything from the gas gauge breaking, to replacing 2 alternators, new turbo, 2 trannies, 1 rear end...etc. Now it just passed the 36K part of the warranty, and even though he has 100K mile warranty, he has to pay $150 every time it goes in for repair! Of course...now it overheats and is burning coolant LOL so it might be time for another motor for that one haha.

Dodge aren't bad, but they cost you an arm and a leg to repair. Parts aren't cheap. Nissan....they should stick to cars...their truck is ugly as hell. Yodat's aren't bad, just alot of cash and can't tow as much as a big domestic.

Ford trucks are built like crap now a days. That is why they are so cheap. They are all plastic!

My truck has a 454 gas engine, and with my superchips on it I still get 18-20mpg on the freeway (22 with the tailgate down), and it only goes down a couple mpg when towing. I have gone from here to Indy for revolution in 04, and from here to vegas at least 4 times and to oregon once. No problems at all.

Just some of my observations...

That came from my original point which was that the diesel was a $5500 option and it would take a hell of a long time to pay that back in the savings, I certainly don't need the towing power.

That's a damn good deal, I checked out used trucks around here just out of curiosity and they want an arm and a leg, although ebay scares me.

Yup, believe me it was weird. I bought 2 one way tickets for the wife and me, they picked me up at the airport, drove us there and we had an inspector check it out, did a 30 minutes test drive, they filled it up with gas, we finished the paperwork and we drove it from Texas back to San Diego. We had the option to back out of the deal should something be wrong when we got there. You can also have an inspector in the area check it over too prior to going there. Texas has more trucks than any other state in the US, so they are cheaper there than anywhere else.

i want a new truck so bad. i just refuse to pay for it. so i will pimp my pos van for as long it runs......knock on wood been 2 years already!!!

Sinful7 09-07-2005 08:46 AM

I was considering buying a fullsize truck, but besides having a blown transmission and some wiring issues, there's really not a lot wrong with my old-school Bravada. I would like to tow with it (hoping to buy a boat in the next few years) so I'm thinking I'll re-do the suspension on it with that in mind. Since it's already AWD is I were to go to a lift plus air ride and get myself some quality offroad/knobby tires.... Oh baby that'd be hot! Oh, and a V8 swap, too.

Now someone buy my FD!
