i was looking through one of my buddies import magazines called Turbo. they had this little section on engine swaps, tips, how toos, and a list of common and uncommon engine swaps. the uncommon one that caught my attention was a 3rd gen RX7 with a toyota supra JDM 2JZE engine swapped into it. has anyone read up on this car? the swap looked factory in the one pic they showed of it. if you got tired of blowing up yor 3rd gen 13b this would be a different alternative https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

thats sacrilage
i've seen this car before...... its a yellow FD with a cwest headlight kit, and a funky hood https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png |
that's such a terrible thing to do. it's like giving in to the enemy. but i'm sure that car kicks a lot of ass though.
|
oh no not again! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif
|
yea its called the supra7
|
hehe i thought there would be a response like this. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Ahh.. I would rather stick that engine in a Landcruiser.. Mmmmmmmm Turbo AWD..
|
Ok, two things, one: to get the 2jzgte in an fd, major modifications have to be done. I mean, just look at that hideous hood they had to use to cover up that straight six,
And two: the landcruiser, while nice, will always suck for the fact that it weighs like 4,500 pounds. |

if you got tired of blowing up yor 3rd gen 13b this would be a different alternative My aunt had a turbo Supra....Always in the shop. Those engines aren't much more reliable. OUt of all the Toyota engines those are the only ones I know of that go out on you.... |
damn, i didnt know that, even the older supra's?
|
Wow joe, I've never heard anything about reliability problems with the 2jz.
They're able to withstands lots of power on stock block too. Or did your aunt have a mkiii? The ones that kinda look like 8 series bimmers. My friend had one, total shitbox. they blow headgaskets too. That car does not have the 2jz But someone did put a MKIII engine into an FC3S before, wasn't the one we have, but the twin turbo 2.5l |
And if you want to be a dickhead and put a boinger into an RX-7, a V8 is better than a 2jz
|

Or did your aunt have a mkiii? The ones that kinda look like 8 series bimmers Nope...she had a 93 or 94 I believe. 2jz-GTE. I dont know too much about these cars but I want to say the compression in the cylinders is really high! I have noticed that toyotas dont really have much pick up. I own one and was drving my cousins today. The Supra and MR2 were just exceptions. Maybe it is just opinion on my part. But I only see supras with problems around here. |
the 2jz can supposively withstand 600-700hp on stock internals and is commonly referred to as the strongest engine toyota ever produced, your aunt had a rare lemon.
kevin. |
your aunt had a rare lemon. Maybe so....My family has bad luck with cars. I know about how much Hp it can take but how long can it handle it? Thats a different story. Toyotas are built to last no doubt about that. But it is a sports car and that shortens the life of the engine. I admit it is not rare to see these cars with 130k plus miles and still going strong. I was in the market for one but I was told not to cause they have their share of problems. The one I was looking at infact had a new engine because the other one blew out. They arent very popular where I live and I see a whole lot more 7's then I do supras. The ones I do see are crap. Texas I guess got the bad stock. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif |
Yea.. My friend Evan has a supra... err had a supra... (He got ran into by a tree) it had alot of problems the only thing I liked about it was the 17x9 chrome bbs's that I wanted so bad.
|
One of the huge advantages of the 7 is the 50/50 weight distribution.
Why would anyone want to give that away? I raced a 650hp Supra not to long ago at Sebring International Raceway and beat him down https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif. The car was fast for the two straights, but had tremendous understeer in the turns and lots of brake fade due to it's weight. Good engine, but all in all, I'd rather have mine. |
The car is belongs to SP Engineering in Southern California. Alex, the owner put in the 2JZ GTE engine on the FD after the engine blew. That car is actually fabricated quite well. Too bad a boinger just doesn't go right with the RX7 chasis.
|
ugh...... the nasty hood that's on that car. yuck. yeah it's a pretty strong engine but they still have their problems.
|
i hate this thread
|
I wouldn't have a toyota anything UP MY ASS!!! The party responsible for such an attrotious endeavor should be strung up so as to be stoned by passers by (no not that kind, put the bong down already).
