Army calling up involuntary reserves

Whether you have taken this oath or not, this article is sobering. I am not trying to be a pessimist but I am a realist... I am not trying to spread panic, but it is time to face the facts. This mobilization is the last step before a draft. Congress cannot impliment a draft until the reserves have been depleted. The Individual Readiness Reserve is the last level of the reserves that can be mobilized.

As a former active duty service member and a current member of the Individual Readiness Reserve, I would gladly go back if it meant that no one in my family and none of my friends would be drafted...

Any one who has ever served in the armed forces, I salute you again. This is just another reminder of the selfless sacrifices that you have made and will continue to make.

As interesting as that article is, I really don't think they'll ever use the draft for iraq now. If we are supposed to pull out in june they're probably just trying to buy some time until that date arrives. I just home something doesn't happend to prolong out precense there.

We have to abdicate political control on July 30 or June, not pull out. We will have a troop presence there at least till '05.

The Army has been forced to look to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) pool and elsewhere for soldiers because it's been stretched so thin by a recent decision to maintain American troop levels in Iraq at 135,000 to 138,000 at least through 2005.

I'm sure canada would help out, but our one man raft with a 20 cal automatic rifle on it is still deployed in afganistan.

I've been mobilized ever since September 11th. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Got out of active duty in April 2001, and entered IRR. Called back in September 14th, 2001. Yup. It happens. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Realistically, a draft will not happen. More troops will not do anything out there considering its guerilla forces we are fighting, not large armies. We need more intelligence, not men. If you want my honest opinion, we need to get the hell out of there. No one wants us there any more except for the top brass.

A national draft is not only stupid, but its quite unneccesary.

very interesting flash... though maybe a bit silly. Most of that money goes to unmanned technology (i.e. fly by wire jets) and other such applications. Shouldn't we try using it sometime?

Holy ****! Just long enought to remember what it was like to be free! I hate that for you mang.

We had a girl from the local Naval reserve unit here get recalled within a month of seperating form active. The ink was prolly still wet on her reserve paperwork. She had just been accepted to the University of Kentucky and paid tuition and then got shipped to Bahrain. I guess that is the way it goes sometimes though. She was AR not IRR too...
