story time:

so, i got out to my car, which has been sitting in the parking garage since sunday. a cold front came through a couple of days ago, and it's been down to freezing the past few nights and only got up to 40 deg today, with lots of wind.

well, seems as a result of things shrinking when they are cold (rubber hose), and the use of screw-type hose clamps connecting my fuel lines to my fuel filter, i got a major fuel leak.

i got in, tried to start my car, and it wouldn't. seems my negative terminal also had contracted due to the cold. so i tightened it, and started her up. it worked, and died like always due to some cold weather starting gremlin. so, i started it again, and it was running...until i smelled fuel. i thought "dang, that's some rich exhaust, smells like pure fuel." i look under the car, and i see pure fuel.

so i turn it off, feel around the filter, and there is tons of fuel on the bottom of my filter. did my filter explode? is the line loose? do i have a hole in the line? so, i take out the filter WITHOUT jack stands, which was torture, and blow in it. the filter is good. so, i put it back on, torque down the clamps with a 1/4" socket, and restart.

it works, no leaks, and i'm running good 1 1/2 hours later. all this taking place in a dimly lit parking garage, dark outside, and a fuel filter holder that made the job 10x harder than necessary. i dont think i'll ever put that back on. and i need better hose clamps, those screw type are hard to access.

oh yeah, I WANT SUMMER NOW!!!! bring on the 110 deg texas weather, i'll take that any day over this freezing crap.

my filter holder ripped itself off the engine bay wall, it just hangs, makes acces easy as hell.

of course when i release it with the big monster BG filters itll be a whole different story

yeah, it used to just hang, i found a replacement holder, so i put it on, thinking "hanging things aren't good. if it came with a holder, it should still have one." turn outs, it's better without it in the long run. no more holder. just added weight anyway, right?
