Looking to get a laptop for the wife.. not looking to spend to much. I found a Sony Vaio for $811..

specs on laptop.. VAIO GRX 670 (2.0GHz Pentium 4, 512MB, 40GB, DVD-RW/CDRW, Windows XP, 16.1''TFT

Anyone have any info on these?? good? bad? Anything as good for cheaper out there???

Thanks in advance...

bret

$800? That aint bad. I am not a big fan of Sony but for that price I would go for it. What kind of Software does it come with? Is it new?? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

sony makes very good units. if the machine is new or in warranty see if you can purchase an extended warranty through sony just in case anything fails on it. is the unit brand new ?

FDokinawa 05-14-2003 03:43 PM

Its brand new.. I dont know if I should get the warranty.. I'm sending to my wife in Japan.. dont know if they could help her there if something happens to it..

here's the webpage.. http://laptops90.com/sonyVAIOGRX670.html

seems like a good deal

but i wouldnt trust any store that is selling something for 2-3000 dollars off of MSRP.....seems fishy

do you know anything about this company....i would do some investigation before a purchase....who knows if the laptops are hot or if they are scammers and will keep ur money and dissapear

i mean..would you buy a PERFECT CONDITION FD WITH 25,000 MILES for 2000 bucks?....something in that deal is wrong....and 800 bucks for a 3000 dollar computer sounds a little wrong as well

I've had my VAIO R505 for a bit over a year now, no problems at all if you don't count the time I crashed my network and screwed up the OS. But that was my fault, now it's running great again. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

FDokinawa 05-14-2003 03:55 PM

thats why im on here...trying to find info.... and I'll tell you what.. you find an FD for $2000 let me know. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

its a very good deal. seems a bit too good to be true.......

93 R1 05-14-2003 04:06 PM

I got a good deal on one, from some **********ER on the other forum. Its broke and I lost $650 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

FDokinawa 05-14-2003 04:08 PM

Man... this sucks! I'd love to get it, but I dont want to get ripped off.

75 Repu 05-14-2003 04:08 PM

Yeah that price would make me rip my hair out.. I paid $1500 for my Dell, with a 2.4 GHZ P4 and 40Gig hardrive, cd-rw/dvd 256mb ram.. so the Sony you mentioned seems better.. But the price is a bit unnerving..

FDokinawa 05-14-2003 04:26 PM

Ok.. so does anyone know where I can get a good laptop for cheep? I wasnt in the market for a DVD burner or anything. Just want one for my wife so we can keep in touch a little easier while im in the states.

FrestyleFC3S 05-14-2003 04:34 PM

I paid around $1,000 for my Viao a year ago, it was a top of the line model then. Work's great - btw. We constantly buy new Viao's for our company at those prices. Laptops, unlike desktops, are still profitable for most companies. I wouldn't be too surprised by that price. Go for it.

FrestyleFC3S 05-14-2003 05:03 PM

if you buy it there.....its not my fault its his *****points fingers*****

teknics 05-14-2003 10:42 PM

damn the thing has a dvd-burner, that alone would negate the possibility of an $811 price tag.... im thinking they are factory refurbed or something.

was that a documented feature, or did you need to teach it?

Nemesis 05-15-2003 12:15 AM

I wish mine had that feature. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

FrestyleFC3S 05-15-2003 12:38 AM

now i know why they called it the "lap" top

phinsup 05-15-2003 12:45 AM

That's about all it does, it's a hunk of ****.

Baldy 05-15-2003 07:42 AM

our desktop vaio hard drive had crashed, and it recently had problems (remember that thread?). I had a guy work on it, and he said it ended up running scandisk for 2 days straight. He thinks it's a windows ME problem, and he's loading XP. Hopefully that's what the problem was!

and yes, I know it's illegal

Tom93R1 05-15-2003 09:25 AM

I was taoking to a friend a while back about places that had these wonderful, almost too good to be tru prices on electronics. He said that he was about to buy something that was priced really low and he asked just the right questions and found out it was a foreign model with all the buttons in some other language, the display in a foreign language, no English documentation, and no warrenty. This was a digital camera I believe but you may want to ask the seller about those things.
