So I went to Starbucks for a cup of joe the other day, and I had planned to use a gift certificate I received for Christmas.

Now Starbucks does charge a premium for its tasty beverages, but I don't mind paying the extra freight, mostly because the company pays its employees enough money to actually make a living and offers benefits 401k plans as well.

However when I went to use my gift card, I was told by a staffer that the store I was in was not an actual Starbucks owned and operated store, but a franchise, and therefore my gift certificate could not be honored. Grrr!

As far as I'm concerned, and last time I checked I was the customer, and I was in a Starbucks store. The backroom financials shouldn't concern me, and franchises, in all industries, should be made to honor gift cards.

this is a big complaint i had with starbucks a while back, for several reasons, one the gift cards, two the fact that the franchises dont have the customer service that the corp owned stores do. If i have a complaint about my joe at an anchor store, if i wait too long, if i order something they are out of they give me a free drink coupon, the franchises tell u to get fucked.

Good news is, starbucks is limiting and eliminating the franchises at a fairly consistant rate, the issue that they have is they have signed contracts with some major chains and have to exhaust those contracts before they axe them. the current game plan has been to put up an anchor store near the franchise and beat it up.

Starbuck's in the US is a great company to work for, they reward their employees, they pay fairly well and they listen to employee feedback.

Call corporate and bitch, the more bitches they hear the sooner those fuckers will go away
