Okay, I may not be an IT wizard, but I've got my home network running smoothly under Ubuntu Linux and it all works very well. Wife is happy because her ipad links up via the wireless access point. I'm golden.

But wait! This wii I have tried to get connected to the net. It finds my wireless and tells me it's secure. I enter the encryption key (carefully, at least 50 times now) and it will not work. I've been over the settings time and again. Tweaked them and pinched them and tickled them too! No satisfaction. No joy. What am I to do?

Any wii wii whizzes out there that can offer any assistance? I'm stumped!

Ooops! Apparently the act of making a thread on the forum inspired me. I tried entering the key under a different security type and it worked! Apparently, both me and the wii are too stupid to know what kind of security we're running!

Hey! I heard that!

Yea you need to know what type of security it is.

When you scan for networks on the ps3 it tells you what kind of security said networks have automatically.

Well see, that's the thing. In the detection process, it highlighted one type of security, the second item in a list of like four types. The descriptions are a bunch of letters. I didn't remember exactly what I set up when I set up the WAP a few months ago. I figured the wii detected the security and was indicating what it found.

Ah, well. At least it's working. I can get the weather now. Big woop. How do you get "wii points?"

WPA, WEP, TKIP

I feel your pain. I just got internet access at the house last week. It took me ten hours to set it up. Partly because of the modem being a piece of crap, partly because I didn't check the security settings on my computer (sound familiar?), and the last four hours was spent trying to figure out why the modem had internet access, it could be accessed with a hardline to the computer, but the wireless router wouldn't get access, even though it would broadcast a signal. Turns out I had to wait for at&t to allow the router on. But I know my wireless router's ip address, admin name, and password by heart now.
