I want to buy a welder and all i know about them is i need one https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png. Anyone want to help me out and give me some info on the different types and things?

Summit racing equip has several types
|
what kind of welder do you want? Arc, MIG, ot TIG?
I would suggest a MIG. the price range on them is decent and they can do just about any type of welding job you have in mind. As far as brands, I've always used Lincoln, real fine craftsmenship. |
well i dont know what type of wleder i need and the differences between them. I work with aluminum alot and some steel for exhuast and stuff. Will a mig welder work on that?
|
Yes a mig or tig will work. but they arn't cheap. well at least I don't think they are. summit sells both.
|
Mig isnt so good for welding alum...
|
If your going mostly aluminum you want a TIG welder. they cost though, your next best bet is MIG. they cost less and can do almost just as much. in fact they are faster than tigs, but can't do quite as much.

First Question: What power supply do you have available.
2nd Question: What are you welding 3rd Question: What types of welding are you proficienty in? 4th: Do you have an Oxy/Acytylene rig ? |
just to let ya know welding ain't a walk in the park, it took me a good month of mig welding pipes and other mild steel things to get a good bead and penetration.
|
1.) Just a normal plug
2.) Thin guage aluminum and piping for exhuast 3.)none 4.)no |

if ur gonna be welding aluminum and exhaust piping (SS or aluminized) i'd say go with a tig (very high quality weld). Problem is that it's really hard to use. I'm gonna take a welding class; I advise you do the same.
|
With 110V you are limited to a 110v MIG, and then you are limited since they require a DEDICATED 20AMP circut.
My recommendation is to take a welding class at your local tech/community college and see what you are capable of. In your shoes I would recommend you learn to gas weld. Go to www.tinmantech.com and READ!!!!! |
