I really want some good info/advice. My only car that runs just broke down. It is a 87 honda civic sedan. The timing belt broke. I have learned that my engine is an inference engine in which if the timing belt breaks the valves could get bent and/or destroyed. I was coming home on a back road going 65 mph when the belt broke. I have no money right now. How can i tell if the valves are bent and/or destroyed? I tried moving the cam pulley and i can barely move it. Are you supposed to beable to move it when it's not in gear? I talked to a mechanic and he said it would cost around $1200 to get it fixed. Any advice/info would be nice.

take off the valve cover and see if the valves are following the cam.

or, pop the hood and kiss that engine goodbye. my friend destroyed an older model bmw when the same thing happened. it's big money to fix most of the time.

1200 to get it fixed is crap.

I own a 90 Accord EX and to get a fully rebuilt engine with around 100k+ miles on it, it costs around 1200.

Used Jap import motors are $300-500 with 40-50K miles.

For @$1500 you can go B16A with all the trimmings and 160 hp to boot!

Do any of you have links to sites with used jap motors? If i was going to do a jap engine swap, what do i need for the whole swap?
