Such is life I am learning day by day I wonder if you can buy one off someone who street legalized one in Canada... I know a guy with two older skylines that he imported and safetied here.. might be alot easier to import Canada to USA than it would be Japan to USA |
The easier way to do it would be to pay Colin or myself to get it inspected in Canada, and let us drive it, and when get it registered in the States.
|
Canada to US isn't gona make any difference.
|
If the car is 15yo it will, it only has to pass a basic safety here. might cost 1000 bucks. Not a big deal.
|
Seriously
How so FrestyleFC3S' car was a Canadian car that he bought up here and drove back to NJ, he didn't have a problem I'm just saying perhaps theres a loophole you could take advantage of if it's easier for us to do the "legwork" of making it legal, then you can buy it from us and pow |
Thats for Canada though, those rules don't apply on US soil. For instance Minis can be imported to Canada that are 15 years old, but HAVE to be 25 years old to be brought in the states. Even if the car is in Canada, still can't be brought over the line. Wish they made it easier. |
hmm
well that just sucks! |
After it's registered in Canada it's a Canadian car, so it shouldn't matter.
|
ive seen 2 skylines and 1 evoV or VI by my house. teh guy with the evo said he bought it off some guy that imported it for racing, rally i believe, its registered as a 240 and insured as a eclipse, or something like that. last i spoke to him he was having a hard time tracking down dome break pads or rotors....
|
Stick with the FD. If getting a Skyline was easy, you'd see alot more of them. Sure you can get other than Motorex cars, but it dosent mean they are legal. I say again, as of about 6mnths ago when I checked, Motorex was the only LICENSED importer. You can find loopholes, but what happens when you get pulled over or get in a wreck.
|
You are seriously overestimating these cars - you see the odd one around here and basically they look like a glorified Primera and don't go a whole lot faster - at least not on track. The guys that build cars like mine do better lap times with 100bhp 1.4 litre cars, must be all that weight.
I wonder how much you would have to spend to get that amount of power?
$100,000 give or take. The car was probably around $70k plus various non-engine related odds and ends equaling $30 or so, and I know the guy spent $200k total on the car. At least that was the tally when I stopped working there. |
yeah they are really overrated.
you cant just go out and make 1k HP on them like everybody thinks. |
1000 horse is easy for the RB. You can nearly do that on stock internals (not quite though). It all comes down to one thing. How fast do you want to spend? |
The Skyline has 3 things going for it in my opinion. A kickass motor, eclusiveness, and AWD. None of which would make my sell an FD and take on a world of headaches, money, and frustration.

oh and you forgot RHD
Contradiction? Maybe, but at least my FD is street-legal. And I didnt have to pay thousands of dollars to get it that way. RHD would be a serious pain in the ass in a LHD world. Think about that annoying ass semi that you are craning you're neck to see around because hes doing 45mph on the highway. |
yeah when you said "a world of headaches, money, and frustration" you described an FD to the tee. i see your point on the rhd thing and never thought of it that way. i already have an idea for a mirror setup for that exact thing on lhd cars when trying to pass on the right. |
I'd rather deal with maintance issues, than the legality of the car issues.
|
its just the allure of saying "i drive a RHD JAPAN IMPORT SKYLINE"
like you're extra fresh because your car is a real japan sports car |

haha dyno queen

Yeah, I'm just jealous....
|

Why not just get a Supra.
2JZ > RB26 SC300 > Skyline |
SC300 is a girls car
|
why don't you sell your fd, get a beater, ban yourself from nopistons, and buy a home?
|
sc300 is a man's car.

My mom has a SC430. That thing is pretty sick.

one word.
Over rated. ok... maybe that is 2 words..... |
1000 hp on a stock internal RB26? Which fantasy world do I have to go to? Initial D? Maybe a stock oilpan...but definitely not a stock block. "stock" block is really only good for about 500 hp...and even that's pushing it ... and still losing to modified single turbo FD's...just ask IGY https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
damnit people, seriously...**** the RB.
2JZ is where it's at! |
I lived in Japan for 5 years and my first car was a skyline gtst. It was the slowest piece of crap around. Stock sr20's where whipping me up. Thats not the car to drop some cash into.
SoCal, actually. We built one at the shop that I worked at. Seasoned R33 RB26, twin HKS GT2835s, and a big squeeze. 976 hp at the crank. Last I heard it had put down over 20 low 10 second passes in an S14 chassis, and they were still working to get it out of the hole better. I don't recall the exact trap right now, but it was ungodly. |
