I was on highway 70 this afternoon (3:30ish) and was going towards st.louis. Well I was nearing Cave Springs. I was doing 50mph it was raining pretty good. well I started to get back on the gas I let the clutch out slowly and then the car suddenly walked to the left and began going around I tried counter steering and everything. Nothing worked I went clear across the highway facing traffic before spinning around to see I was headed right for the ditch. I hit the ditch then went over the ditch and right up the hill. I finally came to stop hit the steering wheel then laid my head down pissed and shocked. Well this guy in a B series mazda Rolls up and is yelling at me. So I roll down my window he is yelling to see if I am ok. I say yes but I think I am stuck. So he tells me what to do exactly when and to my surprise I start to get out but then I get stuck on the lil edge of the highway I pull it out of 1st put it into 2nd begin spinning so I pull it out and put it in 3rd begin spinning floor it see some smoke then I finally pull up onto the highway. I shut down the car get out and look at it. Looks fine no damage mudd and grass everywhere. A lot of steam though.... open the hood nope no damage. So i get back in the car and begin to go. I dont know if the guy that helped is reading this but if he is I THANK YOU SIR! Seriously guys I thought I was dead! I was not driving fast! I was not driving stupid! I didnt even change lanes! I wasnt weaving in and out of traffic or anything I was just driving slowly due to the rain that was it! Well I will be putting the car on a lift up at my work monday and double checking everything!!

I thought the car was gone... I thought i was gone.....

I still dont know how me or the car made it through that with such heavy traffic!

Whoaaa! Glad to hear you're ok and that the car made it as well. Vosko's right, could have been oil, pavement vs asphalt or lord knows what else.

I've gone hydroplaning in my Neon before, pulled out if it with no damage etc.

i had a candy bar sitting in the seat next to me, picked it up and started eating it like nothing happened. Sure was getting stared at . . .

That happened to me once while going 65 and changing lanes in my old TII a few weeks after I got it. The car swerved across 2 lanes, and came withing 1-2 feet of the concrete divider. Somehow I got it back to the right, but then it spun. I wound up going straight again, looked around, and just kept going...a little slower. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png That's what I get for driving with crappy tires in the rain. :madgo:

I know the feeling see my post, I Hate Snow! Well it is good that there was no damage done (to you or your car). Maybe you should go buy a lottery ticket. LOL!

Twin89Stangs 05-12-2002 06:41 PM

lol wonder if the car gods will help me win the lottery!

Not a bad idea! :bigok:

When I used to drive a mustang, it would hydroplane all the time. The wide tires and the rain would create some problems. Now they have much better tires for the rain then they did 10 years ago. If you drive it for a everyday car, and you dont already have them- invest in GOOD tires. I know its hard when its happening, but I used to get out of the hydroplane if you let off the gas, throw it in neutral, then GENTLY lift the emergency brake, ever so slightly, and usually the back tires will allow the car to straighten out. It worked for me 2 seperate times, hydroplaning is some scary ****, but if your on a highway, you do usually have some time to at least try to do something. Glad to hear you are ok though!

What about in the Cutlass? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

What about in the Cutlass?
< That was actually pretty good in the rain even with the Mickey Thomson I-comps on it. But that Mustang with the Goodyear Gatorbacks hydro-planed at least twice on me. Once I did have to use the emergency brake to get home in the cutlass when one of the front brake lines ruptured on me at 4am. Bitch was the brake was a pedal on the floor and not on the center console, and the release was a seperate handle, so the left foot on the brake, my right hand on the release, while trying to steer, and I had to downshift the car because it was a reverse manuel valve body.
