Alright its either this months issue of modified or Turbo, but there is an FD in there with an SR20DET in it. I threw a fit in the downtown Ft Worth barnes and nobles after reading this, but apparently according to that magazine.. the SR20DET is LIGHTER?! than the 13B... The owners reason for doing such blasphemy was he didn't care for the rotaries reliability (or lack thereof), including a part in the article where he said he had the motor rebuilt by Ari Yallon of Rotary Performance AKA RX7.com and it barely lasted him 3500 miles or something like that. How the hell is a nissan engine, not including transmission, lighter than the king of power to weight rotary? I'm so confused... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

BrandonDrecksage 02-17-2004 01:54 PM

an ls1 v8 is lighter to, you have to think about everything with the engine...the exhaust manifold...turbo...ect

Leetheslacker 02-17-2004 01:54 PM

The Fd's engine may be light, but the **** bolted to it isnt really.

The vette v8 is lighter then the stock Fd engine/turbo/othershit by 20 something pounds.

BrandonDrecksage 02-17-2004 01:55 PM

vette, camaro, firebird and gto v8 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

TheAntiChrice 02-17-2004 02:00 PM

But that still doesn't explain why the hell this guy threw an SR20 into his car when he pretty much made the engine to be for drag racing, considering he couldn't get 2500 miles out of a motor.. so I'm gonna make an educated guess and say his motor was lightened up... I don't know.. anyone have this months turbo or modified? I can't friggin remember which one it was in

defprun 02-17-2004 02:04 PM

Oh bloody hurray! More nay-sayers, disbelievers and sinners!

rfreeman27 02-17-2004 02:05 PM

Thats stock turbos. Aftermarket units are lighter.

treceb 02-17-2004 02:53 PM

i personally saw an FC with an sr20. it looked neat. and kicked arse.

TheAntiChrice 02-17-2004 03:06 PM

Oh I forgot to put in the fact this FD runs 10's with the SR20 swap, and the owner said how much more reliable performance he can get out of it

donhayes 02-17-2004 03:09 PM

it wasn't in turbo because i get that mag. IF the guy couldn't get his new motor to last longer than 3500 he is a ricer driver. It takes around 2000 just to break in the motor properly. He must have gone out and red lined the bejesus out of it right away before the seals sat properly. What a turd. The rotary engine is much better than some damn sr20det. That engine should stay in Nissans and never go near a Mazda. He must be a hippy or something.

defprun 02-17-2004 03:10 PM

I hope Mr. Wankle judges you in Rotary Heaven and sends you to Pistonhead hell!!!!

diablone 02-17-2004 03:10 PM

If it's the same guy that did the swap on the RX7Club, he went with the SR20 because he's worked with it for years.

Somehow I highly doubt a hippy drives a gas guzzling, burning a quart of oil every 1500 miles, tree leveling sports car... but thats just mah educated guess...

donhayes 02-17-2004 03:22 PM

well if he thinks that the rotary engine is bad because he can't drive a car right he must be an uneducated hippy. But thats the Army in my talking.

Jeff20B 02-17-2004 03:29 PM

That guy's got raisins in his braincase.

TheAntiChrice 02-17-2004 03:31 PM

beats the **** outta me man. I guess go read the new issue of modified.. if it is modified it has a black 350Z on the cover. I mean the FD is pretty clean and runs 10's on a reliable motor you can constantly flog on... SR20s are known be very durable motors.. I just find it hard to believe its 40 or so pounds lighter than a 13b...

rx7girltk 02-17-2004 03:41 PM

its on ebay look http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...7&category=6327

I'll keep my comments to myslef about this ****. Since I usually don't have anything positive to say about Rx7 mutations.

UniqueTII 02-17-2004 03:47 PM

Maybe we should have a special forum for bitching about this.

teknics 02-17-2004 04:23 PM

Same here

rotary510 02-17-2004 07:10 PM

Seems as if people see the engine as obsolete. I mean, theres always going to be people that dont like rotaries, but I think that number is increasing. I wish mazda would have a factory backed team, running a rotary, in a major racing event. At least I know people like us will keep this engine alive.

Ummm.. you should watch the SCCA World Touring Car series... I forget the drivers name but there is an RX8 being campaigned... and last race I saw the announcers were pratically fawning over the RX8 in terms of track reliability and how well the car does.. that driver placed first in that race.. and that was I wanna say two days ago

what happened to the imsa car running the 787b? It was backed by mazda?

rowtareh 02-17-2004 08:01 PM

I believe it was. I have a video of it running. Whoever the camera operator is, who is professional, can't even keep up with it on the track. It is insane.

rowtareh 02-17-2004 08:08 PM

Sorry, my mistake. It was a 4 rotor. Still, which is VERY impressive, and very loud.

Thats rad, but I meant on a scale compared to ALMS or something like that, at least thats a start though. Sorry I dont get Speedchannel.
