i know the rx-8 isnt out for sale yet but if anyone has seen these motors/tranny up close what do you think? i bet that motor is expensive! its would be a n/a second gen with 250 motor hp, thats nice! opinions please! piece :bigok:

sleeperRX7 09-13-2002 10:08 PM

no one nows? lol guess ill be the firs to do it?lol in my dreams

dysthymia 09-13-2002 10:43 PM

Hah, the first focker that wrecks one will have us vultures looming over his car's carcass. I'd love to make that sort of transplant, but yeah, it would probably cost an ass of money.

Dumbrotorkid 09-14-2002 12:14 AM

are the new rx-8's goin to come turbo or n/a only.if they put like a 20g that would kick ass

evilT2 09-14-2002 12:20 AM

you would probably be better off spending the money on a 20b.

though you could put any engione in it you wanted, save a straight eight or something. as long as you have the budget the sky is the limit

j9fd3s 09-14-2002 04:05 PM

we need to see the mounts first. theoretically, its a good swap. 250hp and it weighs less (supposed to) than an na fc motor. less wieght = you go faster

mike

sleeperRX7 09-15-2002 02:03 PM

ill go steal some mounts from a rx-8, ill use the ninja quickness, maybe not?

manntis 09-15-2002 11:47 PM

I've talked with Mazda Canada about buying crated engines. They're being very evasive about prices and terms...

sidewinderx7 09-16-2002 12:25 AM

i thought about that when i first read about the rx-8. But then i figured if im gonna spend that much money on an engine transplant, i might as well go with a 20b and probably save money, and have alot more power. Im still thinking about that 20bt from corksports... depends on how much i make during king crab season this year https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

sleeperRX7 09-16-2002 12:52 AM

it would, but i like the fact of having 250 hp on a stock engine, who says the rx-8 wont become popular and aftermarket companies may go crazy on it, as well as any rotary enthuisiast would. and if theres a turbo version(nice) do they still even make cosmo engines? if they dont there starting to show there age, harder to find etc., where as the rx-8 motor is brand new. do not take any of these words to as exactly what i mean cause im not sure about the cosmo motor still being produced or not? im still earning the life of rotaries, piece

sleeperRX7 09-16-2002 12:59 AM

did they only make the 20b until 1996?

serpent12 09-16-2002 02:15 AM

I think the cosmos ceased production Jan 1997.

From what I have heard, Mazdaspeed are releasing the RX8 in a 360bhp turbo form,

due late 2004. The N/A 13B i think has huge potential, I have always appreciated

the development of smaller engines, especially in N/A form.

Get ready to smash up some RX8s..

The Blue Bomber 09-16-2002 04:27 PM

where can you get those rx-8 cd's and what do they have on them?

if they are anything like mazdausa, its because they have no clue.

we waited over 9 months for a 1/4 panel once.

yeah i dunno either, every time they come out with a new motor its more expensive, dont hold your breath. it would be really cool if they offered it in crate form, they could do it for 3-4k and make money.

Even if people could get the motor they'd have to get something to run it. I'm sure that the port timing, etc. will be way off from the old 13B's. I say just get a 13BT, etc. You'll spend less money to get 250 HP.

The motor is definitely a good step forward, but I'll stick with what I have and let other people do the testing. :P

blaze08 09-18-2002 12:21 AM

Yeah..where did you get that article about an turbocharged Rx8 making 360bhp? If the engine isn't too expensive then i might be considering puttin the Rx8 n/a engine into my FC3S. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

serpent12 09-18-2002 01:23 AM

It was an article in "Wheels" magazine.... I'll try and find it.....
