As for me, I own both a 1st and 2nd gen (79 and 87 respectively). Had I kept my old 79 I'd have three total *sighs*

turbovr6 04-07-2002 04:00 PM

Well sold the 83, wrecked the 89 vert.... down to the 84 GSL-SE hope to get another vert soon and start on a turbo conversion.

In 1991, Mazda didn't have any trim levels. They had the Coupe, Convertible, and the Turbo II, and you could basically just option the heck out of any of them.

i have an idea swap in TII drivetrain in the nice one and put the old drivetrain into the other Vert. kill 2 birds with one stone https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png all you need is the 13BAce treatment

OKIERX-7 04-08-2002 11:02 AM

I have one and a half. A '90 turbo2 with GXl chassis and a '90 GXL with no chassis.

I just have the '88 *cough* SE right now. It has 89 GTU interior parts, and '90T2 hood/wing/LSD..etc...so I've got a few different trims and years wrapped up into one https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I've also had an '81 GS and at one time had 5 dif parts cars, lol...let see..they were '86 GXL, '87 GXL, '88 SE, '88 T2, and I dunno what the other one was...it was just the rolling chassis w/ no body panels. Some day I'm gonna get an FD...just wanna finish playin w/ my SE turned GTX now...

Rotorboy317 04-09-2002 10:25 PM

I have an '86 NA Base, an '87 GXL, and an '84 GS. But really, if you figure in the amount of crap my '86 has been through (6 wrecks, been high-centered at least twice, my grandmother drove it...'nuff said) and whats left of the '84 after some stupid woman drove it up under a truck, and you really only have enough for maybe 1.5 cars. Thats being generous, and assuming that the '84 can be somehow made to fit with the '86.

For what I paid for all three though, I figure its worth it. I paid $300 for the '86 (long story), $500 for the GXL, and $100 for the GS. All in all, $900. I love living in an area where people dont know what they're selling. heehee...

vosko 04-09-2002 10:31 PM

its very rare when you get more FD's anywhere. there were less FD's made ! FC's are like the plague you see one and 10 more showup behind it. i think that's a good thing though https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

i didn't think i was that much smarter than you :sigh:

isamu 04-10-2002 12:15 AM

I think that there are quite a few 1st gens around here. Not a whole lot of Fd's, but every once in a while I see one. I honestly think I see more 1st gens than 2nd gens, but I might be mistaken.

ThirdGenRX7 04-10-2002 10:47 PM

is it just me or do second gen owners know an assload more about their cars than third gen owners?

Renesis 04-10-2002 11:28 PM

Wow. I just can't believe the overwhelming amount of people who own 2nd gens on this forum...

I own a 1st gen...a BEAUTIFUL 1985 GSL! She's georgeous and the love of my life.

I think it may be the intimidation factor of the 3rd gen. I mean look at that car from a tech standpoint, absolutely mind boggling.

Plus there's the cost factor https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I figure a lot of us older 7 owners are willing to just tear into their cars to see what we can do. I mean look at my 2nd gen it's been down forever now due to some odd problem but I'll keep going at it till it's fixed. (Plus I'm lazy as all hell https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR Now that it's actually WARM in Des Moines I'll be a lot more motivated) 2nd Gen's can get complicated enough to make you want to scream to say nothing of the 3rd gen.

But damn, those 3rd gens are nice. . .
