I know theres somethign somewhat similar posted in the RX8 section but I think this may be worth a read for everyone in the general area.
Car and Driver, Jan 2003: "As the speed creeps up, so does the intensity of the sound, changing from a flat ripping note to an angry drone as it reaches for its 8500RPM power peak. An almost indiscernable vibration at the controls grows to a subtle trembling as if the car were firing an ultra light recoil machine gun. The expereince is like nothing else This, then, is the return of the rotary" This is pretty awesome, and im happy its getting close to completion. They quote it at over 3000lbs but I dont think this is going to be the case. I think there is going to be a last minute weight reduction on whatever they can like there was to the FC. Those of you who went to 7stock know what I mean about it not being over 3000lbs I just really hope the first batch of RX-8 owners aren't douche pseudo gurus who think they know everything about rotary's and the RX series and treat their 8's like the FDs were by some rotary ignorants when released. Yea and theres a 5spd auto vers with 205hp |

My take on that is many of the first owners of the FD were boneheads with fat paychecks. They'd run their cars hard and put them away wet. Once the cars broke, they cried unreliability. How do you think they got a bad reputation with the masses? From true enthusiasts? Nope. From dudes looking for a toy. I've know some that fit this profile. They think they know what they are doing. But they get that from being able to afford to allow shops to do all their work for them. Chances are if you are reading this, then you don't fit this profile.
Do you think that the RX-8 will be bought mainly by fans of the rotary? Try again. They'll mostly be bought by those that saw them on TV or a magazine and thought they looked cool. 99% of those out there know almost nothing about cars. |
